That also wraps up our coverage of the 4th fixture of the Lanka Premier League between Kandy Falcons and Galle Gladiators hosted by Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, HambantotaWe hope you enjoyed our coverage. Megh Mandaliya here, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Akshay Bhide, and scorer/analyst Paras Yadav. Join us tomorrow for the 5th LPL fixture between Dambulla Giants and Colombo Stars. See you there!
Wanindu Hasaranga (Kandy Falcons Captain): "Our foreign players are doing a great job for him. Our local players are doing their best and we have a good balance. We have a good amount of experience and it helps us. We are going to our home and playing in front of the home crowd will help us."
Kusal Mendis (Galle Gladiators Captain): "The batters failed to step up tonight. We put a low score on the total. We have 3-4 good players in the squad and we might make changes in the next game."
Carlos Brathwaite (Player of the Match): "The pitch was good for seam bowling. So kept it simple, to be honest. Happy with the opportunity to open the bowling. Almost picked up a fifer. No one wants to drop catches but it is a difficult ground to take high catches. Enjoying my time here and hopefully will keep performing in a similar manner in the upcoming games."
Carlos Brathwaite is named the Player of the Match.
10:40 PM IST | Megh:  That wraps up the 4th fixture of the Lanka Premier League 2022 between the Galle Gladiators and Kandy Falcons. The Falcons have trounced the Gladiators by 5 wickets and they have conquered two games in a row to start their campaign on a high.

In pursuit of 122, the Kandy openers started on an electrifying note as they stitched 55 out of the powerplay by losing one wicket. Openers Pathum Nissanka and in-form Andre Fletcher took away a scant chance of winning that Galle had by walloping loose deliveries early on in the innings.

Nissanka hammered Riaz in the first over before the ‘Spiceman’ orchestrated three boundaries off Nuwan Pradeep’s first over. The quick 30-run opening stand between the duo was soon broken by Pradeep as Fletcher 20(14) edges one straight to the keeper. That was soon followed by another scalp of right-handed Nissanka 22(21).

Kamindu Mendis, the next man in, endured through pressure and stitched a match-winning for his team. While the Falcons kept losing wickets from one end, Mendis kept marching on from the other. The southpaw accumulated 44(34), including 4 fours and 2 sixes, and almost wrapped up the fixture for his team.

As far as the Galle bowlers are concerned, Nuwan Pradeep attained two scalps but was a little untidy. Similarly, Nuwan Thushara, Pulina Tharanga, and Iftikhar Ahmed claimed a scalp each. Eventually, it was a comprehensive victory for Wanindu Hasaranga-led Kandy Falcons and they have laddered up in the points table.

Earlier in the day, after winning the flip and electing to bowl first, Galle Gladiators posted  121/8 on board. The Gladiators were off to a sedate start as they only managed to secure 29 runs inside the powerplay by losing half of their lineup. Moreover, they only managed to stitch three boundaries in the powerplay.

A
t the halfway stage, the Galle were tottering at 45/5 before Imad Wasim and Movin Subasingha furnished a little period of resurgence for them. The 65-run partnership between Wasim 34(39) and Subasingha 40(38) for the 6th wicket gave the bowlers something to uphold.

Braithwaite was the pick of the bowlers for Kandy and he finished his stint on 4/14. Similarly, UAE pacer Zahoor Khan also delivered tight lines and attained two crucial scalps. Lastly, Hasaranga and Udana both grabbed a wicket each to restrict Galle to a substandard score.

Stick around for the post-match presentation!

14.3 P Tharanga to K Mendis
W WICKET!!!! Flighted delivery around off, Mendis dances down the track and looks to go downtown but miscues it completely as the bat turns in his hands and ends up slicing it. Riaz stationed at long off takes a simple catch. Mendis departs on 44 as Tharanga picks his first wicket of the match.
