So, that's it from this game. Thank you for staying with us and for all the action we had and the rain updates that we tried bringing to you. Both teams will be back in action for the third and final ODI on Wednesday in Pallekele and will hope the weather is a lot better than what we witnessed today. Do join us for this one and for all other cricketing actions across the globe.

For now, this is me Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my esteemed co-commentator Ninaad Dixit alongside scorer/analyst Raju Khariya. Stay safe, happy, and cool, and until next time, goodnight and cheers!
So, the inevitable has happened. Persistent rain has abandoned the Second ODI and the series remains 1-0 in favor of Afghanistan. Both teams will garner 5 points each in the World Super League. This is a case of missed opportunity for the home team as they were in a better position to win the game than the Afghans when rain intervened. Afghanistan will breathe a sigh of relief and will know that they can't lose the series.

Earlier in the game, Afghanistan opted to bat first under blue sunny skies in Pallekele. They got off to a solid start despite losing last game's centurion Ibrahim Zadran early for 10 runs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz continued his good form and built a great partnership of 113 runs with Number 3 batter Rahmat Shah. Gurbaz top-scored with 68 off 73 balls while Rahmat scored 58 off 78 balls. Hasmatullah Shahidi the skipper struggled for his 28 off 45 balls.

But the Afghan batters lost their way from 135/2 to 228 all out. Nobody in the middle and lower order gave any support to experienced campaigner Mohammad Nabi. Nabi fought like a warrior to score 41 off 34 balls and was the ninth wicket to fall in the innings trying to up the ante. Just 5 extras were given by the Sri Lankan bowlers as the Afghans finished with a mere 228 in 48.2 overs.

All the Sri Lankan bowlers bowled well and complimented each other well. Kasun Rajitha picked up 3 wickets for 31 runs in 9 overs. Maheesh Theekshana picked up a couple of wickets for 49 runs in his 10 overs. Lahiru Kumara went the distance but managed to get a couple of wickets for 50 runs in 6.2 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga bowled an economical spell of 1/39 in 10 overs. The same can be said of part-time off-spinner Dhananjaya de Silva as he had exceptional figures of 1/37 in 10 overs. The young Dhananjaya Lakshan was used for just 3 overs which went for 21 runs.

The chase of 229 started 25 minutes late due to rain in the mid-innings. Then once it did only 2.4 overs were possible in which Sri Lanka took their score to 10/0 with Pathum Nissanka unbeaten on 3* off 8 balls and Kusal Mendis 2* off 8 balls. The rest of the 5 runs were extras courtesy of 5 wides given by the bowling team. The rain intervened to force the players off the field and never relented for us to give a restart even for a 20-over game. Fazalhaq Farooqi and Mujeeb were the two bowlers used by the Afghans today.

So, the match was abandoned due to rain as both teams collect 5 points each in the World Super League points table. Afghanistan continues to lead the series 1-0 and will not be able to lose the series with the final ODI scheduled to be played on Wednesday in Pallekele.
20:59 IST: The match has been abandoned.
20:54: Guess what, the covers were taken off, but our unwanted guest is back. Rain has returned and one feels has sealed the deal as far as this game is concerned. We shall wait for official confirmation from the venue.
20:44 IST: The rain has stopped and the covers are beginning to come off.
20:25 IST: The rain has got heavier again. The cut off time for a 20 over innings is 9PM IST and the match can go on till 11PM IST.
20:09 IST: There is nothing positive to report to you from Pallekele as the rain continues to fall. The locals on the ground reckon that rain has to stop by 9 PM IST for this game to have a result.
19:45 IST: There is nothing to update you on as the rain has gotten heavier at the venue. Stay tuned for further updates as we are in for a long delay.
19:14 IST: THE COVERS ARE BACK. The rain has got heavier and the ground staff is doing its best to drag the covers on the pitch and on the outfield. Another delay in the game.
2.4 F Farooqi to K Mendis
0 Back of a length angling away outside off, Mendis lets it go through to the keeper as the rain begins to come down now. The players are rushing off the field and we are set for a delay now.
2.3 F Farooqi to K Mendis
0 Fuller length around off, Mendis defends it back to the bowler.
2.2 F Farooqi to P Nissanka
1 Fuller length angling into the pads, Nissanka clips it away to the square leg region for a single.
2.1 F Farooqi to P Nissanka
0 Good length angling in, Nissanka is beaten on pace as he is hit high on the pads. They appeal, but it's clearly too high on the naked eye.
2.1 F Farooqi to P Nissanka
4wd That's a horrible ball from Farooqi. Length ball straying down the leg side, Nissanka misses the glance and too much for the keeper to do anything about it. The ball goes away for 5 wides here.
The physio is out again to keep a check on the limping Pathum Nissanka.
