That brings us to the end of the coverage of this first ODI. Both teams will be back in action on Wednesday for the second ODI in Karachi. Do join us for that ODI and for all other cricketing action across the globe in our network. For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my esteemed co-commentator Ninaad Dixit and scorer/analysts Ghanendra Singh Thakur and Ashok Dayma. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Good night and CHEERS!
Babar Azam (Pakistan Captain): "Definitely. The way we bowled with the new ball and the ball was stopping initially. In the first 15 overs, we kept things tight and then spinners came into play. Definitely, we knew there will be help for the bowlers. Dew made things easier. The partnerships were crucial and Rizwan was special in the end. Of course good to see the youngsters doing well and putting their hands up under pressure. The plan was to win and definitely we are happy to win and go 1-0 up. We played well and credit goes to the whole team."
Kane Williamson (New Zealand Captain): "We would have liked a few more runs, Pakistan were very clinical with the ball in hand in the first innings. Having said that, competitive enough, we got things right in the second half there were a lot of glances where the game could have changed quickly. Some learning their as well but credit to Pakistan, very clinical and adapted to the conditions.

There were some mid partnerships but none of them were going on to building that first innings and giving us a chance in those death overs. There was some good fight in that first half to get to a good total but we wanna be doing things a little bit better in all departments. Whenever we come against Pakistan, its a tough challenge and they showed their quality today.

The toss had an impact but there was some assistance in the second innings so I don't think it changes the result. It was quite interesting to see how it unfolded and take some learnings from there and I think both teams had opportunities to get something off the conditions with the ball, in the first innings the ball was reversing and we got some turn in the second half as well."
Naseem Shah: "Thanks to the All Mighty that we won. That's the most important thing. We won the match and credit to the whole team. My focus was to bowl according to the strengths and stick to the basics, I think there was some reverse swing as well which helped. Happy to perform well for the team."
Naseem Shah wins the Player of the Match Award.
Time for the post-match presentation ceremony.
Salman Agha: "I think its a tricky pitch but if you restrict the opposition to 250-260 while bowling first then its a good total but 280-290 would be a tough total here to chase. The reverse swing available in the first innings wasn't there the second time round. The amount of turn was the same and the ball wasn't reversing probably due to the dew.

If you bowl in good areas as a spinner then the ball was spinning a lot and it was hard to score against the spinners that's how the spinners get wickets as well. Any series opener sets the tone and that was the chat before the game. Hopefully we can continue in the next games."
10:51 PM IST: A comfortable win for Pakistan by 6 wickets with 11 balls left to go 1-0 up in the 3-match ODI series. They garner 10 WSL points and outplayed New Zealand in all facets of the game. A lot of thinking to do for New Zealand before they come back to play on Wednesday.

Chasing a gettable 256 for the win, Pakistan lost Imam-ul-Haq early for 11 runs. Then the duo of Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam put on 78 for the second wicket. Fakhar scored 56 and Babar scored 66. Mohammad Rizwan came out all guns blazing and turned out to be the star of the show with his unbeaten 77* off 86 balls. Haris Sohail chipped in with a crucial 32 off 23 balls at the end and Agha Salman was unbeaten on 13* off 10 balls as Pakistan got to the target in 48.1 overs. Just 3 extras were given by the New Zealand bowlers tonight.

Michael Bracewell was the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand with figures of 2/44 in 10 overs. A wicket apiece to Tim Southee and debutant Henry Shipley. The rest of the bowlers went wicketless with Santner keeping it tight till the end. They had an under-par total to defend if we are being honest about the judgment of the condition.

New Zealand got off to a disastrous start as they lost Devon Conway for a golden duck to Naseem Shah. The New Zealand innings never got going from that point as loads of people got starts but did not kick on to a substantial score. Finn Allen scored 29. Kane Williamson scored 26. Daryl Mitchell scored 36. Tom Latham looked good for his 42. Glenn Phillips scored 37. Michael Bracewell played well and top-scored with 43 off 42 balls. Cameos from Mitchell Santner (21 off 18) and Tim Southee (15* off 11) took New Zealand past the 250-run mark as they finished with 255/9 in 50 overs. Just 5 extras were given by Pakistan in what was a disciplined bowling performance from them.

Naseem Shah was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan with exceptional figures of 5/ 57 in 10 overs. He was ably supported by the two spinners Usama Mir and Mohammad Nawaz. Mir had 2 wickets to his name in his 2/42 in 10 overs. Nawaz bowled well for his 1/38 in 10 overs. Mir’s two wickets included Kane Williamson and Tom Latham the two big players for New Zealand. Mohammad Wasim Junior picked up the other wicket to fall. Haris Rauf was a little off-color as went for 54 runs in 8 overs and did not pick up a wicket.

So, a win for Pakistan by 6 wickets with 11 balls to spare to go 1-0 up in the series. Stick around for the post-match presentation ceremony that comes your way soon.
