That's our wrap on this enthralling Test match. Both teams will be back in action in a couple of days' time at the same venue for the second and final Test match which will be the decider. Stay tuned for more cricketing action across the globe in our network. For now, this is me Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Akshaya Krishna Polya, and Deepak Prakash alongside scorer/analyst Dushyant Madhukar Kumar. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodbye and Cheers!
Babar Azam | Pakistan Captain: "Ahh...Definitely. As we all know and thought about the result, just wanted to have fun out there. To be honest, our fifth bowler is Salman Agha, but he was not feeling well and we missed him in the bowling. That's why we used him in the second innings. These things happen. Definitely. The way Imam and Saud and Wasim fought after a wobble was great to see. Saud is a player that we need to keep an eye on. He is an exceptional talent. Happy with the result and there are areas to work on ahead of the next Test match. A quick turnaround. Thank You very much."
Tim Southee | Captain New Zealand: "I wouldn't say win slipped away,  I think for us to lose the toss and being in the position to win the test match it was pleasant. They guys did well, it took a lengthy 4-5 days, and today there was some help. Ish should be incredibly happy with himself because he hasn't played Test cricket in a very long time. With that collaboration with Kane, not just with the ball but also with the bat. We are a close-knit bunch with Kane and Tom out there, so it wasn't much different than usual. It's nice to go out and do things."
Kane Williamson | Player of the Match: "Ahh... It was a fantastic opening partnership that made me play the way I did. I just built on the platform they set. I was seeing how the pitch was behaving and trying to get the feel of it.

The next step was to establish some partnerships and try to get a feel for the terrain. They had varying degrees of momentum, but they put us in a powerful position. They are well aware of these circumstances, but for us, it was important to follow the plans. It was nice to see the rough come in as well.

A good batting surface. It was nice to see Imam take the field in the second inning. He did an outstanding job, in my opinion. A fantastic cricket match, a little retro in the modern Test arena but fairly balanced. Now let's quickly move on to the second. It was nice to spend some time there and contribute; you're always looking to get better. You must approach things slightly differently here than back home.

Tim and I are still in touch and had a fantastic cricket match. We'll get back to it in an old-fashioned way with a quick turnaround. (On ranking double ton above the competition) I don't give it much thought. It's about supporting the group. A nice team performance was made."
Kane Williamson receives the Outstanding Performance of the Match Award.
Ish Sodhi receives the Best Bowler of the Match Award.
6:08 PM IST | We are ready with the presentations...
5:58 PM IST: The players shake hands as the first Test match between Pakistan and New Zealand ends in a draw. If one looks at the conditions on offer we had here, we would say neither team deserved to lose. Yes, New Zealand were the better side overall, but Pakistan did well to hold onto a well-fought draw. The light has the final say in Karachi.

Let’s quickly recap what’s happened in this Test match. Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first and recovered well to post 438 all out after being 48/3 at one stage. It was skipper Babar Azam who led from the front with his majestic 161. Agha Salman scored 103 while keeper batter Sarfaraz Ahmed scored 86. Tim Southee was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets. 2 wickets apiece for Ajaz Patel, Michael Bracewell, and Ish Sodhi, and a wicket to Neil Wagner.

In reply, New Zealand got off to a terrific start courtesy of their openers Devon Conway and Tom Latham as they put on 183 for the first wicket. While Conway missed out on his century by 8 runs, Latham carried on to get to his century as he scored 113. But it was the Kane Williamson show as he notched up his 5th Test double ton and stayed unbeaten. He became the first Kiwi batter to get to 5 double tons, going past Brendon McCullum’s 4.

Ish Sodhi chipped in 65 as New Zealand declared their innings at the score of 612/9 declared. Abrar Ahmed and Nauman Ali bowled marathon spells and got 5 and 3 wickets respectively. For Abrar, it was his second five-wicket haul. Mohammad Wasim Junior got a wicket as well. The lead for New Zealand was 174.

Pakistan coming out to bat in their second innings with a deficit of 174, got off to a solid start thanks to Imam-ul-Haq who held the innings together for his 96. The top-order initially failed as they left Pakistan in a spot of bother. But Sarfaraz Ahmed gave impetus to the innings with his 53. Later on, Said Shakeel and Mohammad Wasim Junior performed under pressure with knocks of 55* and 43 respectively. Mir Hamza played his part as Pakistan did well to recover from 206/7 to get to 311/8 declared in 103.5 overs with 10 extras given by the fielding side.

Ish Sodhi was the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand with figures of 6/86 in 36.5 overs. Michael Bracewell picked up the other two wickets while the rest of the bowlers went wicketless. Neil Wagner hardly bowled while Southee and Ajaz Patel were ineffective, to say the least.

Chasing an improbable 138 runs to win in 15 overs, New Zealand gave a good account of themselves in the chase. Michael Bracewell promoted up the order and fell for 3 off 5 balls. Then the duo of Tom Latham and Devon Conway decided to have some fun out there. Conway was unbeaten on 18* off 16 balls while Latham was the aggressor with his 35 off 24 balls as he showed his array of shots. The Kiwis were 61/1in 7.3 overs when the light dimmed to an impossible level and forced the umpires to call off play.

Abrar Ahmed picked up the only wicket to fall as he and Nauman Ali were taken to the cleaners in this brief passage of play. The pacers Mohammad Wasim Junior and Mir Hamza kept it tight and made sure Pakistan hung on for a draw.

So, the match ends in a draw. Stay tuned for the post-match presentation ceremony that comes your way soon.
