That concludes the presentation and that also wraps up our coverage of the 5th T20 Women’s World Cup 2023 fixture between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. A historic day for Sri Lankan cricket as this marks the first time when the women in blue have won two consecutive matches in a T20 World Cup. They are resting at the top of Group A momentarily and one more victory from here would almost guarantee them a spot in the sem-finals. Do join us tomorrow for another doubleheader. For now, this is Megh Mandaliya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Akshay Bhide, and scorer/analyst Yogesh Kumar. Cheers and have a good night!
Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka Women Captain): "Feeling good. Really happy about our team's performance. Harshitha Madavi batted really well and Nilakshi de Silva too did the job. We are not dependent on two or three batters these days. We are working on our batting for the last few years. We have some new strategies for the girls and there are a lot of positive vibes in our group. We have to stick to our plans for the next games. Australia is a world-class team. We do have to improve a little bit on our bowling."
Nigar Sultana (Bangladesh Women Skipper): "I think we had a great powerplay but we couldn't manage to get going. Shamima played really well. We would like to contribute with the bat in the next game. We need to work on our boundary-hitting options. We fell short by 15-20 runs and lost too many wickets. Marufa bowled very well today. She came from the Under 19 World Cup and showed how to bowl on this track. We needed to put at least 140+ total on the board and we are looking forward to our next game against Australia."
Harshitha Madavi (Player of the Match): "Chamari had played attacking shots upfront. But once she got out, I had to take responsibility and do what the team needed. I feel the pitch was a bouncy one. While facing the spinners, I had to use my feet to get to the pitch of the ball. Because it was a free hit and it was in my range, I decided to go after it and hit a six."
Harshitha Madavi is named the Player of the Match.
1:33 AM IST | Sri Lanka continues their dream run in the T20 World Cup 2023 and registers their second victory of the tournament on the trot. An all-round performance again from the Chamari Athapaththu-led side has clobbered Bangladesh by 7 wickets. With this victory, Sri Lanka will be positioned at the top of the Group A points table. This is the first time they have won back-to-back matches in the T20 World Cup.

In pursuit of a substandard total of 127, the Sri Lankan openers started on a positive. Chamari Athapaththu continued her blistering touch from the last game and obtained a few boundaries inside the powerplay. The southpaw was just looking to accelerate the innings but right-arm pacer Marufa Akter had other arrangements. She first dismissed Sri Lankan skipper Athapaththu on 15(17) and stuck twice again in quick succession to station Sri Lanka in a tricky situation.

Akter first caught and bowled Vishmi Gunaratne for 1(5), then cleaned up Anushka Sanjeewani on the very next ball with a peach of a delivery. Reeling at 25/3, Nilakshi de Silva joined forces with left-handed Harshitha Madavi and the duo forged a match-winning partnership of 104-run partnership. The duo bided their time at the crease and soaked up the pressure. Madavi played the leading figure in the partnership while Silva kept moving the scorecard steadily.

The turning point of the game arrived when Madavi and Silva swatted 17 runs off the 16th over and brought the required run rate down to almost 6. Following that over, it proved to be a cakewalk for both batters. Madavi completed her half-century and secured a measured 69*(50), which is now the highest score by any Sri Lankan at the T20 World Cup. Silva also stitched an important 41*(38) and helped Sri Lanka to go past the line convincingly.

Earlier in the day, after electing to bat first, Bangladesh lost an early wicket of Murshida Khatun 0(1) as a consequence of a run-out. Unlike their opening encounter, the Sri Lankan spinners deviated from their route and went short and wide frequently inside the powerplay. Both Sobhana Mostary and Shamima Sultana were quick to respond and punched some boundaries early on. Their partnership was proving dodgy for the Lankans before Oshadi Ranasinghe dismissed Sultana for 20(13).

Mostary continued the swift approach and cruised Bangladesh to their highest powerplay score in the T20 World Cup, which was 48 with the loss of two wickets. Just when Bangladesh was heading toward a big score, Chamari Athapaththu got the wood over Mostary 29(32). Following that, the women in green crumbled like a pack of cards and gave away 5 wickets in quick succession. The Sri Lankan bowlers were equally good to dry up the boundaries and restrict them to a below-par total. Oshadi Ranasinghe was once again the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka and finished her stint on 3/23. The skipper Chamari Athapaththu also produced a couple of breakthroughs by leaking only 19 runs. Stick around for the post-match presentation!

18.2 S Akter to H Madavi
4 FOUR!!!! Harshitha Madavi finishes things in style. This was a tossed up delivery outside off, Madavi takes a big stride forward and drives it beautifully in the gap in the off side for a cracking boundary. Sri Lanka make it two in two in the T20 World Cup 2023 as they beat Bangladesh Women by seven wickets.
18.1 S Akter to Silva
1 Short on the stumps, Silva pulls it towards deep square leg for a single. 100 run partnership comes between these two batters. A match-winning stand for the Lankan side.
