That brings us to the end of the coverage of this fantastic encounter between the Wellington Firebirds and Auckland Aces. It was Auckland Aces day today as they sneaked away with a victory. Do join us tomorrow as Canterbury takes on Otago for a spot in the Finals.  For now, it's me Megh Mandaliya signing off along with my co-commentator Hitesh Peddurwar, and scorer/analyst Raju Khariya. Until then stay safe...
Robert O’Donnell (Auckland Aces Captain): "Yes, it was really pleasing. Happy to get over the line and pleased to see how we as a group kept fighting. We came to this encounter with nothing to lose and the boys were excellent today. Yes, as a leader, you always want to stand up and perform. But you also want other guys to stand up on occasions. That's how you win the championships. We were about 10 short in 18 overs. I guess 130 would have been a good total but I'm happy to get over the line."
Peter Younghusband(Wellington Firebirds Captain):  "I am really proud but it's obviously disappointing to have this sort of season. There was no shortage of hard work it's just that things didn't work our way. I think we failed to have a good partnership in the middle. I think we had a very good bowling unit, we need to tick a few boxes in the batting. Yeah, it was pretty tense, we were looking at the DLS about the rain radar. We knew it was basically like a playoff. Well done to Auckland, Louis bowled pretty well."
Louis Delport (Player of the match): "Really proud of the boys. The competition didn't go our way but good to end it on a good note. I think it's just enjoying every moment, as you get older a lot of things happen outside the cricket. We are looking forward to the red ball trophy now."
9:47 AM IST |  The Auckland Aces have won this cliffhanger of an encounter and they have knocked Wellington Firebirds out of the competition. Unbelievable scenes here at the Basin Reserve and the Aces have defeated Firebirds by 9 runs eventually in a rain-curtailed game.

In pursuit of a below-par total, the Firebirds started their innings on a sedate note. Kyle Jamieson forged an early breakthrough for the Aces by removing Tom Blundell 0(4). That was soon followed by the departure of Rachin Ravindra 4(9), who always struggled to get going. After losing two quick wickets, Nick Kelly and Troy Johnson got together and tried to resurrect the innings but failed to get the acceleration.

Kelly soon succumbed to building pressure and departed for 24(29), and that was followed by the wicket of his companion Johnson 20(15). After tottering at 55/3 at the halfway stage, the Firebirds went further in jeopardy by losing another couple of quick wickets. Nathan Smith 18(18) was going strong but he was involved in a mix-up. Eventually, the home side required 17 runs off the final over and the target was a little too much for them.
Louis Delport was the pick of the bowlers and ended his stint on 3/21.

Earlier in the day, after being invited to bat first, Nathan Smith produced an early breakthrough for the home side by uprooting in-form Cole Briggs 0(3). Following a brief rain delay, William O’Donnell 12(6) was dismissed by Adam Milne, and that was followed by another scalp of George Worker 3(12), stationing Aces at 22/3 after the powerplay.

Robert O’Donnell and Sean Solia then got together and provided the resurgence by sewing up a much-needed partnership of 57 runs for 4th wicket. The right-handed Robert secured 43(38) and took the Aces to a respectable total. Logan van Beek was the pick of the bowlers for the Firebirds and ended his stint with the figures of 4/15. Stick around for the post-match presentation!

17.4 S Solia to O Newton
W In the air and taken!!! That's it, Auckland Aces have sneaked away with the victory!!! Good length delivery outside the off-stump line, angling away from the batter, Newton tries to heave it on the leg side but gets a thick outside edge and the ball lobs up in the air. Delport at short third man region, takes a few steps back and takes the catch easily.
What have you done here Ben Horne? That should have been pouched. 10 required form 3 balls now.
17.3 S Solia to O Newton
4b FOUR!!!!! GOSH!!!!!! That's really poor wicket keeping from Horne!!!! Good length delivery on the off-stump line, swinging into the batter a slower one this time, Newton tries to heave it on the leg side but misses it and even Horne misses to collect.
17.2 S Solia to P Younghusband
3 Full toss outside the off-stump line, Younghusband hits it over the extra covers fielder. The ball runs down towards the ropes, but the man in deep puts in the full length dive and saves a run for his team.

Solia, you beauty! That will surely do it for the Aces. The big man is back in the hut.
17.1 S Solia to Beek
W GONE!!!!! BOWLED EM!!! That was an absolute ripper from Solia. It looks like an uphill task for the Firebirds now to get over the line.  Yorker outside the off-stump line, Beek stays deep in his crease and tries to drill it away from his body on the off-side but gets it on the inner half of the bat and the ball rolls onto the timber.

A majestic over from Delport. Suddenly, the home side requires 17 off the final over. Can Logan van Beek create some magic here?
16.6 L Delport to A Milne
W In the air and taken!!!!! Aces are fired up!!!! Fuller length delivery outside the off-stump line, Milne takes a stride forward and takes it on the full toss. He tries to sweep it on the leg side but gets a top edge and the ball sails high up in the air. The man at deep square leg region doesn't make any mistake as he runs forward and takes the catch.
