That concludes the presentation and that also wraps up our coverage of the 6th fixture of the Super Smash 2022-23 between Otago Volts and Auckland Aces from John Davies Oval Queenstown. We hope you enjoyed our coverage. Megh Mandaliya here, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Deepak Prakash, and scorer/analyst Raju Khariya. Join us tomorrow for the 7th fixture between Central Stags and Canterbury Kings. See you there!
Hamish Rutherford ( Otago Captain): "Yeah, I am happy with the performance, probably a complete performance from us. The way Rae started was pretty good. Yeah, we needed these four points, it is important to us."
Robert O'Donnell (Auckland Aces Captain): "We didn't know what the par score was in the first innings and then the wicket actually very well. It was a good surface down here. We have got the right players and the guys are good enough but it is all about findings ways to build a partnership. You can't overcomplicate things in T20 cricket."
Dean Foxcroft (Player of the match): "Yeah, taking five wickets in a T-20 game is a very tough task. Very excited to be back after 8 months. Wanted to play at the top level but for now, looking for one game at once."
Time for the post-match presentation...
10:24 AM IST | After two consecutive defeats this season, the Otago Volts have finally opened their points tally by thwarting Auckland Aces by 37 runs.

In pursuit of a competitive total of 166, the Auckland openers Max O’Dowd and George Worker executed some alluring strokeplay before Dutch right-handed O’Dowd succumbed to a short delivery of Michael Rae, and subsequently, Rae clinched another wicket in the next ball as Mark Chapman 0(1) edged one to the keeper.

Captain Robert O’Donnel, the next man in, then joined forces with Worker to stitch a brief period of respite before Ben Lockrose dismissed the left-handed Worker for 27(18). Following the wicket of Worker, the off-break bowler Dean Foxcroft scalped four breakthroughs in quick succession and dismantled Auckland’s middle order.

Courtesy of Foxcroft’s heroics, the Aces were tottering at 106/8 after the completion of the 16th over and the Volts were cruising towards a massive victory. Eventually, Foxcroft claimed a match-winning five-wicket haul by giving away just 11 runs in 4 overs.

Michael Rae also claimed three scalps by giving away 16 runs and sealed a comprehensive victory for Otago as the Aces were bundled out for 128.

Earlier in the day, after being invited to bat first, Otago Volts registered 165/8 in their innings. Openers Hamish Rutherford and Thorn Parkes started on an assertive note by stitching 35 of the first four overs.

Foxcroft continued his blistering form by orchestrating 44(34) and his 46-run partnership with Micheal Rippon 28(22) assisted Otago to go past 160 in their innings. Lockie Ferguson exploited the sideways movement and claimed two crucial wickets by giving away 26 runs.

Sean Solia also scalped two breakthroughs but was a touch expensive and Louis Delport alongside Ben Lister also chipped in with a wicket each.
Stick around for the post-match presentation!
