Match Details
Akshay: That’s the
end of the game. No further play will be possible and the Bengaluru Blasters
win the game by 35 runs on the VJD method. A solid all-round
performance sees them hand Mangalore United their first loss of this year’s
competition.
A
monumental task laid ahead of Mangalore United at the start of the second
innings. They didn’t have the best of starts to the chase as they lost their
skipper Ravikumar Samarth early in the innings. Macneil Hadley Noronha along
with Nikin Jose started the recovery work. The Blasters bowled brilliantly and
kept a lid on the scoring rate in the middle overs.
The United
batters didn’t get going as the boundaries dried up. The required run rate was
creeping above 10 and the United batters faltered as they started losing their
wickets in the middle phase. Noronha brought up his fifty but departed soon. It
was too much to do in the end for the lower-order batters as United fell short
by 35 runs by the VJD method. Rishi Bopanna starred with the ball for
the Blasters as he finished with figures of 4/19 in his four overs.
Earlier,
United skipper Ravikumar Samarth won the toss and opted to bowl first. The
Blasters got off to a sensational start, thanks to their openers in the Mayank
Agarwal and LR Chethan. Agarwal toyed with the United bowlers as he played some
fantastic stokes, with the pair scoring 70 at the end of the powerplay. Agarwal
missed out on a half-century by six runs.
Chethan
took the aggressor role after his skipper’s departure as he brought up his
fifty. He was dismissed on 66 in the 12th over and United pulled
back things in the middle overs. They kept picking wickets at regular intervals
and put a lid on the scoring rate. At one stage, a total of 200 was looking
inevitable but the United bowlers bowled well in the slog overs to restrict the
Blasters to 186 at the end of their 20 overs. They failed to carry the momentum
in the second innings as they finished their innings on 129/7, losing the game by 35 runs on the VJD method.
