Earlier, after being invited to bat first, the Scorchers managed to score 176 runs for the loss of four wickets. Again, it was a Beth Mooney and Marizanne Kapp show as the pair built a brisk partnership of 97 runs for the fourth wicket and helped their side cross a 175-run total. Beth Mooney carried her bat today and scored 75 runs off 51 balls, whereas Marizanne Kapp scored a blistering 68 runs off 38 balls. On the other hand, Ashleigh Gardner was the pick of the bowlers as she scalped a couple of wickets for the Sixers.
In response to 176 runs, the Sixers didn’t get the start they desired as they lost Suzie Bates in the third over of the inning, who departed after scoring 3 runs off 9 balls. Ellyse Perry joined Alyssa Healy at number three, and the duo started batting at a blistering pace and were taking the chase closer. The pair built a partnership of 154 runs for the second wicket as skipper Ellyse Perry fell two runs short of her well-deserved half-century.
Ashleigh Gardner with two back-to-back sixes turned the tide of the game, but the game was not over yet as Piepa Cleary with two back-to-back wickets kept the game alive, but Alyssa Healy finishes the game in style with a cracking boundary in the final ball.
