Also a shoutout to Ajay Ahire and Jack for their pinch-hitting contributions. Goodbye, Stay safe, Ta-Ta!!
12:13 PM IST| There you go, the Sri Lankan side in front of the podium, lifting the Asia Cup Trophy.
Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka Captain): "Before coming into the question, I would love to thank the crowd. They have been supporting us. They backed us. They supported us from home as well. Thanks for them.

Now, coming to your point, the toss did matter during the league stages. But we really keen on that. Toss isn't in your hands. We knew that if we play good cricket, we can win the game.

Bhanuka and Wannindu played exceedingly well after losing five wickets. It was a good effort from them that we reached to a total of 170. We thought that 150-160 would have been a competitive total.

Yeah, it happens. You know it is al about the nerves. I just told him to keep the nerves and bowl in right areas, keeping it simple.

Wanindu has been a great performer for years now. He is a dependable player. The coach said that we can win this. We have it in with us to do. And we did it.

And I remember CSK defending the total in an IPL final here, and so I was confident.

After the first game, we sat together and recalled. To be honest, it was just a bad day. Overall we have done well in the competition. Thanks to the Sri Lankan Cricket Board for the support. Thank you."
Dasun Shanaka signs the match ball and collects the winner's check!
Asia Cup Special watches are being handed over to Head Coach of Sri Lanka, Chris Silverwood.
Babar Azam(Pakistan Captain): "Firstly, I would like to congratulate Sri Lanka for winning the Asia Cup. The way Bhanuka and Wanindu played after the 5th wicket fell down, was really good. We didn't bat as per our potential and yes definitely, we didn't end the game, the way we started.

When you come in the finals, you get less making for making mistakes. We were a bit off in the fielding. But I think there were a lot of positives, including Naseem Shah, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Nawaz, Haris Rauf, etc. Thank you!!"
Asia Cup Special watches are being handed over to Head Coach of Pakistan, Saqlain Mushtaq.
Wanindu Hasaranga: "When I went there in the ground, we were 58-5. I and Bhanuka planned that if we can go towards 150, it would be good for us. I have my own role, I told him that I will play my free way. In the initial, there was a bit of an issue but later on, it gradually decreased. I tried to bowl without boundaries, tried to bowl at the stumps, and therefore I feel I got the wickets."
Player of the series: Wanindu Hasaranga
Bhanuka Rajapaksa: "Yes, see, it wasn't easy out there in the middle with Pakistan bowling quite well. When Wanindu came out to bat, we spoke to bat positively as Sri Lanka always approaches on a positive way. He told me that he will be taking an aggressive approach, attacking the bowlers. When Iftikhar came into the attack Wanindu went after him.

I am happy with the way I played. Had to spend time on the crease. During the halfway of our innings, Silverwood said not to get under pressure. Play freely and we did exactly that. I told him that this looks like a140-150 wicket. In the end, I was hitting well and just got a score of around 170. The game is all about the momentum and once I struck a few in the last over, the momentum was with us."

Bhanuka Rajapaksa is the Player of the Match.
Best Catch of the Match Award goes to Sri Lanka's Ashen Bandara (was a substitute fielder for Bhanuka Rajapaksa.).
11:57 PM IST| Here we come with the presentations!
Chris Silverwood | Sri Lanka Head Coach: "Kusal gave us the go-ahead from the top. He has effectively led from the front. Despite their subpar history into the Asia Cup, the team was confident in their abilities. Really, all we needed was a way. Our efforts paid off, as evidenced by the outcomes. We were able to establish and defend because of the plan, which was one of the reasons. Dilshan Madushanka, the youthful seam attack with a left arm, was excellent. The remainder also raised their hands. The work was collaborative."
Kusal Mendis: "The team needed more runs from me, and Pathum and I put up strong partnerships. We lost a few early wickets today, but Bhanuka and Hasaranga performed excellent work."
Mohammad Rizwan:  "I think Sri Lanka played really well. The way they picked the momentum after being 58-5, they deserved to be the winners. As I said, we made mistakes, we are humans and mistakes does happen. I feel the end momentum is important. In both the innings the end momentum was with the Lankans and they ended going past the finishing line."
Dhananjaya de Silva: "I was prepared for any game since I was practising. Our plans were being followed closely. We prepared effectively for the teams. Our captain and coach were both excellent."
Chamika Karunaratne: "It has been so good. When we came here we weren't the favourites. Tonight, we have done it. We are the winners. Happy to be here. It was a complete performance from us. Our youngsters were really good. They are coming up with the ranks.

Our coach said not to worry about the toss. He asked us to be positive. Even after the first loss, the team didn't lose hope. Good comeback to win the next five matches. They pushed themselves to perform at their best."
Ajay: And sadly the Asian Champions will be playing qualifiers in the T20 World Cup coming this year...
Earlier in the game, Pakistan had won the toss and went with the usuals to field first in Dubai. Naseem Shah was unbelievable in the first over and removed Kusal Mendis with one of the best deliveries of the 2022 edition of Asia Cup 2022. The Lion's lost a couple of wickets in the initial few overs. Losing three wickets inside the powerplay, they were throttled on the backfoot.

It was Bhanuka Rajapaksa who took the charge for the Lankans and played an unbelievable inning with support from Dhananjaya de Silva and  Wanindu Hasaranga. He amused a blazing 71 of 45 deliveries when most of the Sri Lankan batters failed to club. At one point Sri Lanka was 58-5 and then it was Rajapaksa and Hasaranga who steered the scoreboard deep and counter-attacked on the Pakistan bowlers. The momentum was created by the duo and then, later on, Chamika Karunaratne added some quickfire as well. Both of them took Sri Lanka to 170 runs after 20 overs, with the specialty being a six of the last ball of the innings. Haris Rauf bagged a three-for and was the leading wicket-taker for them.

In the end, Pakistan failed to chase down the target and lost by a margin of 23 runs.
