So that brings us to the end of the opening game of Asia Cup 2022. It was a clinical performance from the Afghan side as they start off their campaign with a win. Hope you have enjoyed all the action here at our network and don't forget to join us tomorrow for the mother of all battles as team India will cross the swords against arch-rivals Pakistan. For now, This is me Ajay Ahire signing it off along with my co-commentator Ayan Chatterjee alongside our scorer Manish Bishnoi. Until then, Stay safe and stay cool...
Fazalhaq Farooqi (Man of the match): "It's a big win for us. My plan was to make a big impact with the ball and happy to deliver with the ball. I am capable of bowling in any phase of the game and especially in the death."
Mohammed Nabi, Afghanistan Skipper: "Yes, we won the game and the boys really played well. The pacer Farooqi was special. Yes, we discussed to bowl line and length and getting the wickets in the powerplay. The openers played well and gave confidence to us to do well in the remaining games."
Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lankan Skipper): There are two ways of thinking here, first we should bat first in this kind of tournament and the other was the two debutants in our team so it was good to go for bowling first with some help for the pacers. There was a little bit of grass on that one and also two world-class spinners can take the game away from you. Looking forward to the next game and will look to qualify for the next round.
Time for the post-match presentation ceremony.
Hazratullah Zazai: "The bowlers bowled so well to keep the score down. The aim was to chase it down quickly and improve the Net Run Rate.  The plan and understanding were whoever attacks and gives him the strike and vice versa. I hope so we do well and reach the final stages of the competition."
The definition of the word "Dominance" has been defined by this Afghan side...A clinical performance by them as they beat Sri Lanka by 8 wickets with 59 balls to spare. Afghanistan takes a giant leap here as they start off their campaign with a win and not only a win but was thumping win which will help them go into the next round in terms of qualification scenario. A lot to look after for the Shanaka-led side as they lacked in all three departments and have to get up as soon as possible and focus on the next game...

Chasing a below-par score of 106 here at Dubai international stadium. The Lankan side was in search of early wickets to be in the game somehow but the Afghan openers have some other ideas as they went absolute berserk in the powerplay. Apart from that close LBW call against Theekshana, Gurbaz and Zazai found the fence on multiple occasions. They scored 83 runs inside the first 6 overs to show their batting power.

Right after the end of the powerplay, Hasaranga managed to take the wicket of Gurbaz as he misses the big swing on the wood on the score of 40 from just 18 balls but that was too late for the Lankans as by that time the game was well inside the reach of the Afghans. Zazai remained unbeaten till the end on the score of 37 and took his side over the winning line.

Earlier in the day, with the bat, the Lankans were totally outdone by the Afghan bowlers as they managed to put on only 105 runs with 2 balls to spare in their innings. Farooqi was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 2 wickets in the first over and put them under the pump in the first over. After that, the wickets went tumbling for the Lankan side as only Rajapaksa looked in some control of his batting but once he was gone things became worst for them. Thanks to some lusty blows in the end from Chamika they managed to cross the 100-run mark So all and all it was a dominant performance from the Afghan side to seal the deal. Stay tuned for the presentations...
10.1 K Asalanka to N Zadran
1 Najibullah on strikes and gets the winning run. Asalanka comes into the attack here, Najibullah looks to hit this across the line and gets an inside edge towards the fine leg region for a streaky single to get off the mark and get them the win. Afghanistan wins by 8 wickets with 59 balls to spare for a convincing win.
Time for a drinks break now...Only 1 run is needed now for the Afghan side to seal the deal in the first game of the Asia Cup 2022...

A run-out check here...Zazai drills that one back to the bowler and Theekshana got his hand to that one as it goes on to hit the wood at the bowlers' end. Ibrahim is well short of his crease and he has to walk back to the pavilion...
9.2 M Theekshana to H Zazai
0 This could be an unlucky dismissal here. Flights it here, Zazai hits it back to the bowler and the ball may have hit the bowler to deflect onto the stumps. The TV umpire has been called here. Yes, clearly off the hands. Side replays show that the batter is well short of the ground. Ibrahim is unluckily run-out as the Lankans get a consolation wicket in the end.
