That's it from the first T20I between India and South Africa, with the home team winning by 8 wickets and taking a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. Both teams will be back to battle it out on Super Sunday in Guwahati on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Do join us for that clash and for all other cricketing action across the globe.

This is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my esteemed co-commentator Akshaya Krishna Polya, alongside scorer/analyst Manish Bishnoi. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Until next time, here's wishing you Goodnight and CHEERS!
Arshdeep Singh, Player of the Match: "Actually, I have thought about giving a speech today. The way Deepak set the tone, I knew there was help for us. I kept bowling in the right areas and got the reward as well.

I enjoyed taking David Miller's wicket as I bowled the inswinger, and he expected the outswinger, and he was deceived in the end.

The plan for the last over was to take a wicket, but the batter played well, and credit to him. Yes, with God's grace, the body is looking fine and healthy. I have worked on the NCA, and I am feeling absolutely fine at the moment"
Rohit Sharma, India Captain: "Yes, I can hear you. It was a tricky wicket. Had to be a tricky chase as well. Yeah, it was nice to play the game like this. Not so much, honestly, but after seeing the grass on the pitch, we thought of some swing early on. But not throughout the match. It did surprise us.

Happy with the way our new ball bowlers went. They performed well. No matter what's the conditions, the bowler has to execute the swing on offer well. With the swing they were getting, any batter could get beaten and get troubled.

The target of 107 was never going to be a walk in the park. We knew it. We needed someone to steer the ship along with someone like Surya, who can hit big shots. Glad that KL (Rahul) did that. He was in a bit of discomfort. But did well to get through the tough times."
Game Changer of the Match: Suryakumar Yadav
Strongest Performer of the Match: Wayne Parnell
Temba Bavuma, South Africa Captain: "I think as a batting unit we failed to apply ourselves albeit in tough batting conditions. The way Rahul and Yadav batted showed us the way how to play over here.

Yes, we didn't expect the pitch to play this way. We saw it spicy but never felt that it would play this way. It's tough to say to be honest. 3 seamers were good enough in my view. But we were not good enough with the bat.

The positives for me will be Keshav's batting towards the end and the fight we showed. KG with the ball and the overall fight from our boys. We were awful with the bat as we lacked application and need to improve before the next game."
Time for the post-match presentation ceremony.
KL Rahul: "Definitely, for sure. This will right up there among the hardest wickets I have ever played. They might have played in such conditions. Surya was wonderful. To come and play the way he did, was exceptional. He wanted to be aggressive after getting hit on the body. He said to me, you take your time.

I have played in some difficult conditions, but I have never scored runs there.
I am happy to contribute. He(Suryakumar) hit some good shots, which helped me to take the time I needed. I was practising here yesterday, and it helped me as well.

Arshdeep Singh is a young talent. I have played with him. He knows his strengths. He bowls with a lot of heart. It is phenomenal to be the number one death bowler in a team where Kagiso Rabada plays (talking about Punjab Kings). The way he swung tonight was something to watch out for. He is learning and rising up from each game. He is a great talent for the future. You always want a left-arm seamer in your line-up.

Will have an ice bath. Haha, no, no, ice bath and a wicket like this is what we hate the most."
KL Rahul finishes things off in style as he gets his fifty off 56 balls to seal the win for India as they win the first T20I by 8 wickets with 20 balls to spare to take a 1-0 lead in this 3-match T20I series. The Proteas tried their best to fight out of it, but they had very little to defend even on this two-paced pitch.

Chasing a paltry 107 for the win, India were subject to a stern examination by the South African pacers led by Kagiso Rabada and Wayne Parnell as the opening batters struggled for timing. Rohit Sharma went for a duck while Virat Kohli went for 3 runs. India were in a spot of bother at 17-2 but it was Surya Kumar Yadav's arrival that changed the momentum of the game. The spinners of South Africa relieved the pressure as India weathered the early storm. The duo of Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul shared an unbroken stand of 93 runs for the third wicket to get the job done for India. SKY was the aggressor with his unbeaten 50 off 33 balls while KL Rahul struggled with his timing as he fought well for his unbeaten 51 off 56 balls as India got to the target in 16.4 overs.

The South African bowlers tried their heart out with Kagiso Rabada leading the way with 1-16 in 4 overs. Wayne Parnell bowled 4 economical overs for 14 runs. Anrich Nortje was expensive in his 3-over spell but picked up the wicket of Virat Kohli. Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj went wicketless and went for runs as they released the pressure from the Indian batters. 6 extras were given by the Proteas bowlers.

Earlier in the game, South Africa after being put into bat first were blown away in the first 15 balls as they lost 5 wickets for 9 runs to quality swing bowling from Deepak Chahar and Arshdeep Singh as they snared those five wickets between them. Aiden Markram looked fluent with his 25 off 24 balls. Wayne Parnell contributed with 24 but it came off 37 balls as he struggled for timing in the innings. It was Keshav Maharajโ€™s 41 off 35 balls that helped the Proteas to recover from 9-5 to 106-8 in 20 overs.

It was an excellent day for the Indian bowlers. Deepak Chahar finished with 2-24 in 4 overs. Arshdeep Singh ended with 3-32 in 4 overs which included 17 runs that he conceded bowling the 19th over of the innings. Harshal Patel finished with 2-26 in 4 overs. Axar Patel bowled a miserly spell alongside taking a wicket as he had figures of 1-16 in 4 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin went wicketless but went for unbelievable figures of 0-8 in 4 overs. 6 extras were given by the Indian bowlers.

So, a win by 8 wickets for India as they go 1-0 up in this 3-match series. Stick around for the post-match presentation ceremony that shall come your way soon.
