That's it from our coverage of the 1st SPL Qualifier between Boost Defenders and Speen Ghar Eagles from the Alokozay Kabul International Cricket Ground, Kabul. Megh Mandaliya here, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Nikhil Kalla and scorer/analyst Paras. However, our coverage of the SPL 2022 isn’t done here. Stay tuned for the Eliminator, which will begin shortly. See you there!
Megh: THAT’S IT! Mohammad Saleem does it for the Boost Defenders! The Defenders are into the finals and they become the first team to do so. What a thrilling match to end Qualifier 1, it went right down the wire. Excellent performance from them, which completely devastated the Tigers. They are yet to lose a game in this tournament. It was an exceptional performance with the bat, followed by an assertive bowling presentation.
First, Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi stitched a 97-run stand with Samiullah Shinwari 40 (25), for the third wicket, with Shahidi scoring the most runs in the partnership. Farhan Zakhil also smashed 52(35) with the help of five boundaries and four maximums.Ismat Alam bowled tight lines and executed an economical spell of 1/13 for the Tigers but ended up on the losing side. Sharafuddin Ashraf also flaunted his skills with a quickfire cameo of 44 (23), but unfortunately, that was not enough for the Tigers to get past the line.
One of the most notable things from the Defender’s innings was the continuous running between the wickets, in addition to unearthing gaps, an area where the Tigers lacked today. The Tigers would be utterly disappointed, but they will have another chance tomorrow to plunge into the finals when they will face the winner of the Eliminator in Qualifier 2.
