So, a top-notch shot to scurry past the finishing line and the Sydney Thunder have won the match with 50 balls to spare and 10 wickets in hand. This could be a fitting redemption for the embarrassing loss they've had against the Adelaide Strikers.
It was Matthew Gilkes who showed some spark during their chase. After some low scores in the previous games, Gilkes started to take on the bowlers of Heat today. Alex Hales joined hands with him and piled up 36 runs inside the mandatory powerplay. The Thunder seemed to be in a hurry tonight and the right and left-hand partnership finally clicked for the Thunder.
Alex Hales switched gears with time and the duo smacked hard to take the Thunder past the finishing line. 25 runs came off the 11th over and it was Gilkes who clobbered Swepson left and right.
Earlier, the Hurricanes just managed to cross the 6 runs per over mark after winning the toss and opting to bat. Credits to Xavier Bartlett for playing a quickfire of 28 runs from 17 balls in the end.
The visitors failed to get a good start as they lost both Max Bryant and Matt Renshaw inside the first 6 overs. It was Chris Green who shed the first two wickets and bowled three of his overs in the start from one end. Colin Munro was the lone warrior at one end, but the pressure was building as the Thunder were keeping it really tight. Skipper Jimmy Peirson assisted him for some time and stuck a partnership of 51 runs.
So, the Thunder manages to bucket another crucial points and climb up in the points table.
