Megh Mandaliya here, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Hitesh Peddurwar, and scorer/analyst Manish Bishnoi. Stay tuned for the 13th fixture between Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers, which will begin shortly. See you there!
1:20 PM IST | The Ashton Turner-led Perth Scorchers have thwarted Melbourne Stars by 61 runs in their backyard to obtain their second win of the tournament.

I
n pursuit of the third-highest BBL total, Melbourne Stars openers Joe Clarke and Thomas Rogers orchestrated 33 inside the powerplay before Jason Behrendorff drew first blood as Clarke 18(11) departed vigorously attempting a slog. That was soon followed by another breakthrough of southpaw Thomas Rogers 9(10), who gets the top edge to mid-on.

Jason Behrendorff was tidy in the powerplay and utilized the lateral movement off the surface, and as a result, Stars only managed to secure 38. Beau Webster, the next man in, joined forces with Marcus Stoinis for a brief period before Ashton Agar dismissed Stoinis for 4(7).

The Scorchers’ bowlers were clinical throughout their stints and kept the run rate under wraps. The 52-run partnership between Webster and Nick Larkin gave the Stars an outside chance but the target was a little too much for them. Larkin chipped in with a 34(24) before returning back to the pavilion and Webster also contributed 43(32) with the bat before getting cleaned up by Peter Hatzoglou.

Jason Behrendorff was the pick of the bowlers for Scorchers and ended his stint with the figures of 3/32. Right-arm leg-break bowler Peter Hatzoglou also attained a couple of scalps by giving away 28 runs, while Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye, and Ashton Agar claimed a scalp each.

Earlier in the day, after electing to bat first, Scorchers registered a mammoth total of 229/7 on board. Openers Adam Lyth and Faf du Plessis started by accumulating some alluring shots inside the four overs before Lyth 7(8) was outfoxed by an off-cutter. Nick Hobson, at number three, then joined forces with Faf and stitched a crucial partnership.

While Faf was playing the aggressor, southpaw Hobson took the chores of running between the wickets and crossed the 100-run threshold inside the halfway mark. The Stars’ bowlers mixed their pace well but were unable to find a breakthrough. Faf completed his half-century and secured 68(33) before Luke Wood broke the 70-run partnership.

At the stroke of his fifty, left-handed Hobson got carried away by throwing his wicket for 46(26), but keeper Inglis kept marching on and attained his 11th fifty in the BBL. The right-hander’s pyrotechnic inning of 74(33), including 5 fours and 6 maximums took Scorchers past 220.

Despite leaking 50 runs, Luke Wood attained a five-wicket haul for the Stars. Stoinis and Boult also grabbed a wicket a piece but above over 10 an over.
