Match Details
Right then, it was a remarkable change in the end by both the South African players snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. That’s it from us today, I am Ovaise Shariff signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Vatsal Negandhi and scorer/analyst Ashok. Hope you enjoyed the coverage, do join us tomorrow for more action. Goodbye and Goodnight!!
DJ Bravo (SKNP captain): I can't believe it. Glad he was able to pull us over the line. Even with this win, we still gotta improve, to restrict them to 160 was a good effort and there are things we need to talk about from a team's perspective.
Shimron Hetmyer (GAW captain): I just think as players we back ourselves to win such games 9/10 times. He (Odean Smith) was an option and he had a good day, I went for Shepherd but it just didn't come off. It's really nice to have that many bowling options, always nice to have that. We are still in working phases and want to continue to get it right with each passing game.
Duan Jansen | Player of the Match: Great feeling, as a team we spoke about that it's a must-win game and we wanted to take it deep. Feels great to pull off a win like that. Pretty good team performance and chuffed for the guys.
SKNP have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat! What a fantastic finish to this match,19 were required in the last over and the patriots won the match by 4 wickets and 2 balls still remaining.
Earlier in the day, the Guyana Amazon Warriors won the toss and bat first on a dry-looking surface. They got off to a poor start losing, Stirling for just 1. Hemraj and Hope stitched a decent partnership of 69 but were really slow. Hemraj was dismissed for 43 and Hope was dismissed for 20 of 27. Hetmyer came in, smashed the bowlers all around the park, and played a fantastic knock of 46 off just 21 balls, taking his team to the 162-run mark.
The Patriot's bowlers were good but bowled gave away loads of extras and some extra runs in the death. Jansen was the pick of the bowlers who finished with 2 for 37. Dhananjaya got 2 wickets for 28 in his 4 overs and skipper Bravo picked up 1 for 28 in his quota of 4 overs.
The patriots needed 163 in 20 overs. Evin Lewis and Andre Fletcher walked out to open the batting with aggressive intent but Lewis was dismissed on 10 in the 2nd over by Romario Shepherd.
Youngster Dewald Brevis and Fletcher steadies the ship and took the team past the 50-run mark. Just when things looked in control, Brewis was dismissed on 13 in the 9th over and Flecther in the 14th. Both the Bravo brothers were at the crease, Darren Bravo started well and looked dangerous but he and his brother fell in back-to-back deliveries. Rutherford also couldn’t last long. Rain interrupted play for about 10 mins and we were back without losing any over.
Dwane Pretorius and Duan Jansen got some lusty blows in the end but it looked like it wasn’t enough to take them over the line today. 19 runs were required in the last over, Shepherd bowled a poor over and the man from South Africa went berserk and finished the match with 2 balls remaining!!
