Milestone
That is it for the day from this match. New Zealand head to Christchurch with a series lead of 1-0, and it will be either India levelling the series or New Zealand winning the series! For now, it is AkshayaKrishna Polya signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Arijit Kundu and Badal Pareek, who, alongside our scorer/analyst Ashok Dayma brought you all the live updates from rain spoiled fixture. We will meet in the next match as we bring you all the live matches across the globe. Until then, it is cheers..!
Shikhar Dhawan (India Captain): "Yeah, absolutely, it is not in our control. We cannot help it out as we can't get it started without the rain getting stopped. We now hope for a better third game. Yeah, it was quite a surprise when I walked out to bat. I thought it would swing better than the last game. But to my surprise, it didn't do much and was a good pitch to bat on.

We wanted the sixth bowler. So, hence Deepak Hooda came in for Sanju Samson. And, yeah, Deepak Chahar gets more swing, so he came in for Shardul Thakur. And yes, we wanted to try him out here as well.

Yeah, absolutely, all the senior players are resting. So it was a great time to test these youngsters. These players have shown up time and time again. Indirectly, leading this young team feels me so young (laughs).

It is good exposure for them to play in New Zealand and West Indies. It is a good exposure travelling to these part of the world. See, for example, Umran Malik is giving his best to show his talent here. It is a great opportunity for all these boys to show their worth. Yeah, we would love to come with a good intent again in the next game and hope we do well to level the series."
Kane Williamson (New Zealand Captain): "Yeah a good team performance, a fantastic win with contributions from Tomy Latham. A fantastic win for us and over in Christchurch now. Ahm, yeah, the rankings flatter out a little bit. But it recognizes the hard work that the boys give. But at the same time, you have to focus on the things that is coming up.

You need to keep the focus on the next games and have control on what is in your way. It is important to go there and do the work [on 1st ODI]. Yeah, an amazing player [Tim Southee] for us in all formats. We are celebrating a number of milestones every week. And not just that, the longevity he has and the leader he is in the group are something exceptional. Not many people have achieved what he has."
12:34 PM IST | So, after all wait for hours and hours, the decision to call off the match officially has been taken as it is pelting down here at Hamilton!

The day started with the New Zealand captain Kane Williamson winning the toss and opting to bowl first. The Indian openers, Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill, started cautiously by batting with control. While the Men in Blue were going alright at 22/0 in 4.5 overs, as predicted, the rain started to pour down. It didn’t stop anytime soon, and the play was halted for nearly 4 hours.

Once the game restarted, it was reduced to 29 overs per side, and the Indian skipper was dismissed in the second ball after the restart to Matt Henry. Dhawan scored 3 off 10 balls. Then it was Shubman Gill (45 off 42), and Suryakumar Yadav (34 off 25) blistered through with an unbeaten partnership of 66 runs for the second wicket. When these two were going all guns blazing, the rain hit back, with India being at 89/1 after 12.5 overs.

This rain got heavier and heavier as it didn't allow any play thereafter, forcing the umpires to put an end to a frustrating day.

So, now India cannot win the series. The maximum they can do is level the series. While for New Zealand they are leading the series and will love to close it off in Christchurch on Wednesday!

Stay tuned for the captain's quotes!
Match Abandoned Due to Rain!
12:31 PM IST | The two on-field umpires are in with umbrellas, and they are having a chat with the ground staff. Yes, they now meet the two captains and shake hands as they decide to call off the game.
12:24 PM IST | It is pouring down at Hamilton. Looks like this match is close to being called off.
Hrishikesh Kanitkar | India's Batting Coach: "I do, actually. The Test team was already here. I came here, and I was here after the ODI match. It was a nice pitch to bat on, and Rahul had scored a hundred.

All of these I met at NCA in Bangalore, and hence I knew all these players. See, NCA is a great institution to be in. All these players are classy ones. See, they know their gameplay and NCA is a heaven, where these do their practice sessions and all. Coming to New Zealand, you need to adapt to the conditions. It is a difficult country to get adapt to. Suryakumar is an unbelievable class.

You would love to have 10 of them in your team. These players play all over the world, and I don't think they will find it tough to read the conditions. But yeah, these are tough places to be. Surya, as I said, is exceptional."
12:08 PM IST | Adding to the agony, more covers are coming on now. It is really dark in Hamilton. And it is raining heavily.
12:06 PM IST | The play can start as late as 1:05 PM IST!
11:51 AM IST | It has started to rain here and the players are coming off. The groundsmen have been summoned to bring in the covers. This is one hectic day at play.
