Match Details
Earlier in the game, England put into bat first by Australia
got off to a blazing start. It was the Jos Buttler-Alex Hales show all the way
that powered England. They dominated the first 10 overs scoring 118 runs and they
put on 132 runs in 11.2 overs before the skipper Jos Buttler departed with a
magnificent 68 off 32 balls. Alex Hales played through and looked good out
there with his 84 off 51 balls as he was the top-scorer for England.
England
lost their way at the end overs. They scored 91 runs in the last 10 overs and
only 41 in the last five overs. Harry Brook chipped in with 12 off 10 balls while Moeen Ali chipped in with 10 off 7 balls. Chris Woakes' cameo of 13 off 5 balls helped England pass the 200-run mark as they ended with 208/6 in 20 overs with the help of 8 extras.
Nathan Ellis was by far the best bowler for Australia as he was head and shoulders above the others. His 3/20 in 4 overs kept England to 208 as they could have gone past 220 from the start that they had got. Ellis was the best bowler in the match from both sides if one looks at the analysis. A wicket apiece for Kane Richardson, Daniel Sams, and Marcus Stoinis. But all of them barring Ellis went for plenty of runs as Hales and Buttler plundered them. Swepson went for 31 in 2 overs and even Cameron Green was not spared with the ball in hand in his 3 overs going for 38 runs.
It was a hard day for the Aussie bowlers who were without their main bowlers by choice and the likes of Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins, and Zampa will join the team in Canberra alongside the big show Glenn Maxwell.
So, a win for England by 8 runs as they take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series with two matches coming up in Canberra on Wednesday and Friday. Stick around for the post-match presentation ceremony that will come your way soon.
