Kaushik Gandhi | Chepauk Super Gillies Skipper: "Some of our plans didn’t go as planned in the end. We would have loved to chase down without losing a wicket and I should have stayed till the end. It’s important to get some runs at the top of the order but happy to see the lower-order batters chip in. The outfield is very well and the crowd is also good. It’s a picturesque venue."
Vatsal: A commanding performance by the Chepauk Super Gillies. Spartans were put into bat 1st at their home ground and got off to a decent start of 26 with the bat but quickly lost 3 wickets in the 5th over and could never recover from that. Gopinath was their only shining star as he played a decent inning of 42 from 45 balls for the Spartans. None of the other batters got in or built any partnerships. M Ashwin hit some lusty blows at the end to get the team to 113 in their 20 overs. The CSG bowlers were on target from the 1st over itself and all the bowlers were economical. M Siddharth was the star of the show as he picked up 3-13 in his 4 overs. He was ably supported by A Kumar, Alexander, and Sonu Yadav as they picked a wicket apiece and restricted the Salem Spartans to a below-par score.
Chasing 114, K Gandhi and N Jagadeesan started off the chase in fine style and put on 89 for the 1st wicket inside 13 overs. Jagadeesan was dismissed for 39 and K Gandhi followed soon after as he departed for 46. Sasidev was dismissed to an excellent catch by Kishoor at the mid-wicket boundary. Sonu Yadav coming in at 3 played some terrific shots to finish this match in 15 overs as he remained unbeaten on 26* off just 7 balls with 3 huge sixes at the end. The Spartans' bowling didn’t have much to offer M Ashwin, D Ferrario and Karthikeyan got a wicket each but could not contain the Chepauk batters. A brilliant win here for the defending champions Chepauk Super Gillies.
