2:42 AM IST: So, that's a wrap-up on the proceedings of this first T20I. The teams are back on Friday for the second and final T20I in Bristol. Do join us for that and for all the other cricketing action across the globe. For now, this is me Ayan Chatterjee bidding you Goodnight/good morning to all our viewers alongside my esteemed co-commentator Ajay Ahire, and scorer/analyst Yogesh Kumar. Stay safe, happy, and cool until we see you in the next fixture. CHEERS AND TA-TA!
Keshav Maharaj (Winning Captain): "Miller woke up with a niggle in the morning. It was a great atmosphere at Bristol and the boys played really well. The guys got an opportunity in the England series and they did well and that's a good sign for us. When you got 200 figure mark on board you feel confident but credit to the Irish side who played good cricket."
Andrew Balbirnie, Ireland Losing Captain: "No I don't think so. The pitches are so good and it was gettable. But we lost wickets at the wrong time. I think this ground is too hard to manage and we have to manage the bowlers differently and hope for the best. I think we have to be better at our performances and look at how we can correct our mistakes. Yes, I think that we came back well with the bat and hope that we can win on Friday. I think I am confident we can level the series."
Reeza Hendricks (Player of the match): "I have been working really hard for the last couple of weeks and that seems to be working. Unfortunately, we lost Quinton upfront but Aiden played really well in the middle. There is tough competition for the spots in the side and that's a great sign."
2:30 AM IST: South Africa wins this high-scoring game by 21 runs to take a 1-0 lead in this 2-match series here at Bristol. A spirited effort by Ireland comes to an end as the target of 212 turned out to be a bridge too far for the Irish to climb today.

Chasing a stiff target of 212 for the win, Ireland got off to a flier thanks to their openers Paul Stirling (18 off 11), and Andrew Balbirnie (14 off 13 balls). But it was Lorcan Tucker who stood out with his 78 off 38 balls which was laced with seven fours and five sixes to his name. George Dockrell gave him good support in the end, with his 43 off 28 balls which had two fours and three sixes to his name. The rest of them tried to swing hard, but to no avail, as they fell 21 runs short. Just 9 extras were given by South Africa today.

From South Africa's bowling point of view, skipper Keshav Maharaj led from the front with his 2-29 in 4 overs. A couple of wickets apiece for Wayne Parnell (2-36), and Tabraiz Shamsi (2-37) while a wicket apiece for Lungi Ngidi (1-39), and Dwaine Pretorius (1-44). All of them bowled their quota of four overs as only five bowlers were used by Maharaj.

It was Keshav Maharaj who won the toss and opted to bat first on a great batting track at Bristol. The Proteas lost Quinton de Kock for 7 runs as he was run out by Harry Tector. It was the Reeza Hendricks show from thereon as his 74 off 53 balls powered the South African to a good total. He was ably supported by Aiden Markram who made 56 off 27 balls. Cameos from Tristan Stubbs (24*off 11), and Dwaine Pretorius (21*off 7) alongside 13 extras given by Ireland helped the Proteas reach 211-5 in 20 overs.

From Ireland’s point of view, a couple of wickets for Gareth Delany, while Andy McBrine picked up a wicket in his 2 overs. Joshua Little also picked up a wicket but he went the distance along with many of us who were plundered today. Mark Adair also went for 48 in 4 overs.

So, a win for South Africa by 21 runs to take the 1-0 lead in this 2-match series. Stay tuned for the post-match presentation ceremony coming your way soon.

19.6 W Parnell to B McCarthy
6 SIXX!!! What a strike from McCarthy to end the match. He will spoil Parnell's brilliant figures. Fuller length a tad outside the off. McCarthy gets behind that one and smokes that one over the bowler's head for a maximum. But that won't be enough for them as South Africa beat Ireland by 21 runs and take the 1-0 lead in this series...
19.5 W Parnell to B McCarthy
0 5 dot balls in a row in 20th over from Parnell. Again bowls yorker length outside the off. McCarthy misses the swing to the keeper.
19.4 W Parnell to B McCarthy
0 That's great bowling from Parnell. Another wide yorker from the left arm pacer and McCarthy fails to get bat on it...
19.3 W Parnell to B McCarthy
0 Another great wide yorker from Parnell and again McCarthy failed to get bat on it.
19.2 W Parnell to B McCarthy
0 Swing and a miss here. Fuller angling away from the batter. McCarthy swings again but no connection.
19.1 W Parnell to B McCarthy
0 Parnell to bowl the last over. Starts with a wide yorker and McCathy fails to get bat on that one.

18.6 L Ngidi to B McCarthy
1W RUN-OUT!!! Short ball on the off stump line from Ngidi. McCarthy hangs back and pulls it towards the deep square leg region. McBrine wants the second as he was halfway through the mark. But send back by McCarthy. Good throw from the deep from RVD and MBrine fails to get back in time and he has to walk back towards the pavilion.
18.5 L Ngidi to A McBrine
1 Drags his length back on the off. McBrine heaves it towards the deep midwicket for a single.
18.4 L Ngidi to A McBrine
6 SIXX!!! McBrine sends that one over the fence for a maximum here. He thumps it on the leg side. Fuller length on the off stump line. In the slot from Ngidi. McBrine smokes that one over the deep midwicket for a maximum.
18.3 L Ngidi to B McCarthy
1 Back of a length on the off. McCarthy pulls it towards the deep midwicket for a single.
