With this, the Australian side seals the first game and gets an early lead in the series. That's it from all of us here. This is me, Ovaise Shariff, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentators Akshay Bhide and Tugral Azmi and scorer Ashok. Tata. Bye Bye.
Aaron Finch| Australian Skipper: "It was a good game of cricket, Maxwell's inning was of high brilliance. He showed great talent. We were one wicket behind where we would like to be. It was an extraordinary inning played by Maxwell today. Our execution has stalled a bit and we will keep working on our bowling"
Dasun Shanaka | Sri Lanka Skipper: "I think both the teams played very well. The bowling let us down and too many loose balls cost us the game. I’m very happy with the total on the board. 300+ is always a winning total on this ground and we failed to hit the right areas while bowling. Hasaranga is an important member of us and hopefully, he will be fit for the second game. Wellalage is a good cricketer. I have been watching him from his Under-19 days and he will improve and bounce back in the next game."

Glenn Maxwell: "It was really pleasing to get across the line with wickets falling around. T tried to stay till the end. I felt it was a good opportunity to attack the young spinner and score as many in that over. I have learnt the reverse hit in the last few years and I always back myself to hit it."
Glenn Maxwell is the Player of the Match for his match-winning knock of 80* off 51 balls.
Time for the presentations.

11:30 PM IST | Ovaise: The big show shines and single-handedly takes Australia past the finishing line, Australia have won the game with 2 wickets (DLS METHOD)

Let’s have a recap, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to field first on a dry-looking surface. Danushka Gunathilika and Pathum Nissanka walked in to open the batting for Lanka and took them off to a flyer. They had come out with an aggressive intent and were severe on anything short and lose. Josh Hazlewood opened the bowling from one end and it was surprising to see Glenn Maxwell opening from the other, Cummings and Jhye Richardson were quickly bought into the attack when but they too couldn’t manage to get a wick as the Lankan openers looked quite solid out in the middle. Both the openers got to their respective fifties and it was smooth sailing for the hosts.

On the 4th delivery of the 20th over, Sri Lanka lost their 1st wicket to a run-out, and Australia pounced on them by picking up 2 more wickets, at this point, the host was looking on the verge of a collapse but Asalanka and Kusal Mendis stitched up a magnificent partnership and took Sri Lanka past the 200 runs mark. An Excellent platform was set and Sri Lanka did well to finish with 300 in the end. Mendis ended with a brilliant 86 or 87 balls.

The pitch had tried down when Australia came out to bat, the visitors got off to a terrible start losing David Warner on the first ball of the 2nd over. Aaron Finch and Steven Smith steadies the ship and slowly started accelerating, Finch was dismissed by Hasaranga in the 13th over before rain interrupted play for over 2 hours and the game was reduced to 44 overs a side. Steve and Marnus put up a valuable partnership and took Australia past the 100-run mark but in trying to accelerate, Marnus lost his wicket. At this point, Australia were 126-3 in 21.4 over. Marcus Stoinis joined Steve Smith in the middle and the Sri Lankans had tightened the screws and were making it very difficult for the batter out in the middle. Smith was dismissed by the debutant, who bowled an excellent arm ball and knocked over the stumps. Stonis was taking it on and playing his shots but he played one too many and got dismissed by an excellent googly by Hasaranga.

Glen Maxwell and Alex Carey were watchful at first, saw off the spinner's threat and shifted a gear in around the 34th over, looked like the momentum was shifting towards the visitors but Hasarange struck in his last over and got Lanka back in the game big time. The debutant also chipped in with a crucial wicket but Maxwell singly handly took Austalia to the finishing line with a magnificent 80 of 51 balls.  The big show has a licking towards Sri Lankan grounds, he has a magnificent recond here in Sri Lanka.

42.3 D Chameera to G Maxwell
6 SIXXX!!!!! Maxwell finishes things in style. Take a bow Big Show. Chameera bangs it short and Maxwell was waiting for it as he sits back and pulls it powerfully in front of square in the leg side for a maximum. He remains unbeaten on 80 to guide his side across the line with nine balls to spare and help his get an early lead in the series.
42.2 D Chameera to G Maxwell
6 WOWWW!!!! That should be the game for Australia. Chameera bowls on a length outside off, Maxwell stands still and lifts it over mid off and it sails over the ropes. There was class written all over that stoke. Truly sensational from Maxwell.
42.1 D Chameera to G Maxwell
0 Chameera to bowl the penultimate over. Starts with a back of a length delivery on off, Maxwell punches it straight back to the bowler.

41.6 D Wellalage to J Richardson
0 Fuller delivery to end the over and Richardson leans forward and pushes it to covers. End of an expensive over from Wellalage. 11 runs coming off this one and Australia require 12 runs from 12 balls.

41.5 D Wellalage to G Maxwell
1 Flighted delivery on the pads, Maxwell pushes it to deep mid wicket and gets down the other end.
41.4 D Wellalage to G Maxwell
2 Fuller delivery outside off, Maxwell drives it past covers and has enough time to come back for the second as the sweeper cuts it off.
41.3 D Wellalage to G Maxwell
0 Drifting down leg, Maxwell looks to sweep it over short fine leg but mistimes it. Theekshana inside the circle stops it on the bounce.
41.2 D Wellalage to G Maxwell
4  Back-to-back boundaries for Maxwell. This is poor ball and the debutant is under tremendous pressure. Tosses this up way down leg and Maxwell sweeps it hard past the short fine leg fielder for another boundary.
41.1 D Wellalage to G Maxwell
4 FOUR!!! A perfect start to the over as far as Australia are concerned. Tossed up delivery from Wellalage, Maxwell quickly changes his stance and switch hits it over short third man for a boundary.
Akshay: The pressure is building on Maxwell here. But he will back himself as they require 23 runs from the last three overs. Wellalage to bowl the 42nd over.
