Arya- Delhi Capitals was always playing a catch-up game after conceding 208 runs in the first innings. However, they had some exceptional power-hitters in the game who had the ability to take the game away from the Yellow brigade. They needed a very good start and the initial bit was provided by Srikar Bharat and his opening partner David Warner. However, after that brisk start, DC lost Bharat in the 3rd over which didn’t help in the powerplay stages.
The game turned upside down when the man in form David Warner was adjudged LBW of the bowling of Maheesh Theekshana. He went for the reverse sweep but couldn’t quite make any contact. It was a close call but Warner had to depart s the onfield decision was out. From there on, skipper Rishabh Pant and Mitchell Marsh started to counter-attack and took the CSK bowlers on.
Theekshana was smashed for three consecutive fours by Rishabh Pant and it was then consolidated by Mitchell Marsh who also struck some delightful strokes. Mitchell Marsh was dismissed by Moeen Ali and the offie followed it up with the wicket of Rishabh Pant, a wicket from which DC could never recover. They kept sliding down the barrel as wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals.
CSK bowlers were aware to the situation and never allowed DC to get anywhere close to the target. The final nail in the coffin was the wicket of Rovman Powell when he outside edged one back of a length delivery from Mukesh Choudhary straight to MS Dhoni. Shardul Thakur did strike some good blows towards the end but he knew very well that it was for a lost cause.
