Well, that's it from the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings. For now, I am AkshayaKrishna Polya who is signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Ninaad Dixit and Ayan Chatterjee who along with our scorer/analyst Paras Yadav brought you all the live actions from this fascinating Southern Derby. We will meet in the next match. Until then, it's cheers..!!
Harshal Patel | Player of the Match: "Right, in the first over I was trying to bowl into the pitch and a couple of slower balls as well. But they didn't go my way. Then I changed my tactic. I always try to give away a couple of boundaries less in every match from the previous one. To the left handers I bowled wider and slower which worked for me. One thing is need to be aware of the conditions and then what the batter is trying to do. Then you should know what kind of balls you can execute. Till the time you have clarity when you are at the top of the mark, you should be fine. When people are waiting for the slower balls, my hard length balls and my yorkers are released."
Faf du Plessis | Royal Challengers Bangalore Captain: "Yeah, indeed we needed this win to bring our confidence back. We are moving in a right direction with the batting. We batted well and then backed by our bowlers and fielders. At the halfway we thought above 165 was a par score and then the pitch was also a bit slow. We are lucky to have experienced players out with us in the squad. With Virat along it is easy to get some advice from him and the group of senior players is doing a great work. Now we need to just improve our batting as the tournament progresses. If our top four score runs we can post excess of 170 regularly. Once you get the opportunity to push for the net run rate then we will put on the gas and go for it. "
Harshal Patel is the player of the match.
Glenn Maxwell: "I am over the moon. It was a good bowling effort on a tacky wicket. Our spinners and pacers bowled well throughout to get us the win. Seeing Moeen and Jadeja bowl showed the pitch to be gripping. I tried to bowl it onto the pitch, and get some turn and with left-handers, it helped. Even to Rayudu, I kept it tight wicket-to-wicket. A good question, I think we are peaking at the right time. Our batters are peaking at the right time, hope we can peak at the right time and make our way into the playoffs. It's not going to be easy, but we will fancy our chances. "
MS Dhoni | Chennai Super Kings Captain: "I think we did well to restrict them to 170 odd runs. I felt in the second half in the last six seven overs started to get better which meant we had to get to a good start. I felt everything was up to the mark. What really let us down was the batsmanship. I feel when you are chasing, you know the required rate, you know the bowlers and the conditions of the wicket. Sometimes you have to curb your instincts and play according to what the situation is demanding, rather than playing your shots. So I felt if the batsmanship would have been slightly better, maybe in the last few overs we might be having a few lesser runs (to chase). The start was quite good because we got off to a good start, we had wickets in hand. The wicket kept on getting better but instead we kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and few of the shots, we can really have a look at them, Ii we take care of those things. Chasing is more about calculation and batting first is more about instincts. As a batter you are in the middle, so you have to decide on those things and the same goes with the bowlers. Your confidence might be a bit high on taking decisions on what's to be done while batting or bowling but I don't think we were lacking with these decisions in this particular match. Its not about how many games we have lost. We need to keep looking on what went wrong. It's easy to get distracted with how many points you have. Its the mistakes and the process that matters than where you are positioned in the points table. So if you take care of those things then the points and points table will take care of itself."

Akshaya: Earlier, CSK won the toss and opted to bowl. RCB started well with their skipper, Faf du Plessis smashing the bowlers all around the park in the powerplay. He along with Virat Kohli added 62 for the first wicket. Kohli was playing a supporting role to his captain. Faf (38 off 22) was playing glorious shots before he was caught down at deep mid wicket.

Glenn Maxwell (3 off 3) had a night to forget as he was victim of a wrong call by his partner Kohli. Moeen Ali then bamboozled Kohli (30 off 33) with a perfect off spinner's dismissal. Mahipal Lomror and Rajat Patidar took the responsibility of stabilizing this faltering RCB innings from 79-3.

Patidar and Lomror added 44 for the fourth wicket as the former (21 off 15) was undone by a cutter by Dwaine Pretorius as he was caught brilliantly by the rushing Mukesh Choudhary from deep square leg.

Lomror  played well but couldn’t go and get his well deserved fifty as he ended up miscuing one to long on in the first ball of the 19th over. Maheesh Theekshana bowled exceedingly well and gave away just two runs and picked three wickets in this over to put brakes on the final surge of the batting side. Theeskhana picked Lomror (42 off 27) and Hasaranga (0 off 1) in consecutive balls and then cleaned up Shahbaz (1 off 2) too.

Dinesh Karthik (26* off 17) clubbed a couple of sixes in the last over to propel the side’s total over 170. Though they lost Harshal Patel (0 off 0) in the last over, RCB posted 173/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

For CSK, Maheesh Theekshana picked three wickets while his colleague Moeen Ali picked two wickets. Dwaine Pretorius was expensive but broke the much important partnership of Lomror and Patidar.

AkshayaChasing the target, CSK too started well as RCB. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway backed their mammoth partnership from the last match with a 54-run stand tonight. It needed Shahbaz Ahmed’s left-arm spin to break this partnership. Gaikwad (28 off 23) played a miscued pull down to long on’s throat.

Glenn Maxwell came and conquered the middle phase with his excellent off spinners. Robin Uthappa (1 off 3) and Ambati Rayudu (10 off 8) couldn’t play the quick off breaks from the Australian as both of them went back to the pavilion in the matter of a couple of overs.

Devon Conway played responsibly at the other end and brought up his second consecutive half-century in the IPL. Moeen Ali joined him and the things were going smoothly before Conway (56 off 37) was found wanted on sweeping Wanindu Hasaranga.

Once Conway perished, they had new batters coming in from his end. Ravindra Jadeja (3 off 5) and MS Dhoni came and went without adding much to the total. Mooen (34 off 27) was undone by a beautiful slower delivery by Harshal Patel as he toe ended one to short extra covers. With his wicket they lost hope but Dhoni was there. Thala (2 off 3) had no other options to go after the bowlers and found the deep mid wicket fielder's bucket hands.

With 31 requiring of the last over, Dwaine Pretorius (13 off 8) smoked the first delivery to a six and departed in trying the same on the second delivery. Maheesh Theekshana (7* off 4) did dent the net run rate of RCB with some strokes in the last over but couldn't stop RCB winning it. CSK were restricted for 160/8.

For RCB, Harshal Patel was the pick of the bowlers with his spell reading 4-0-35-3. Glenn Maxwell was also impressive with his bowling and finished with figures of 4-0-22-2. Wanindu Hasaranga, Josh Hazlewood, and Shahbaz Ahmed scalped a wicket each in the support of the main bowlers.

Akshaya: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) win the 'Southern Derby' here at MCA by 13-runs. Despite, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) scoring 17 from the last over the target was always far from their reach. RCB take the two crucial points from this game and move up a spot in the points table to be a part of top four while CSK's hope of making it to the next stage would have been collapsed.

W In the air and taken at long on by Kohli! Harshal drags back his length and bowls another cutter just outside the off stump.
