The next delivery was wide but that was kept brilliantly by Sanju Samson as he flung to his left and stopped a certain wide four. The next delivery was again on the mark and this time Krishnappa Gowtham had no idea whatsoever. Again it tailed back in and struck Gowtham plumb in front. It was one of the greatest first overs in the history of IPL.
Two early wickets set the tone for the Rajasthan Royals. Jason Holder was sent up the order but the ploy didn’t work as he was dismissed by a well-directed short delivery from Prasidh Krishna. Deepak Hooda then steadied the ship along with Quinton de Kock for a bit with both playing some lovely shots. It was debutant Kuldeep Sen who got rid off Hooda as he went for a slog down the leg side and ended up losing his stumps.
Ayush Badoni who has been the go-to man for the Lucknow Super Giants this season was bamboozled by Yuzvendra Chahal as he ended up hitting one wide leg break from Chahal straight down the throat of the long-off fielder Riyan Parag. Krunal Pandya then came in and played some good innovative shots to get the scoreboard moving but the required rate was climbing steadily.
The decision to hold Chahal back worked for the Royals as he bagged the wicket of Quinton de Kock in the 16th over he ended up dragging one outside off down the throat of the deep midwicket fielder Riyan Parag. The going got tougher and tougher as Chahal also got rid of Quinton de Kock and Krunal Pandya in quick succession to put them under immense pressure. A first ball six of Avesh Khan kept LSG in the game going into the final two overs.
Stoinis took Prasidh Krishna to the cleaners in the penultimate over and punished him for 19 runs to get the equation down to 15 required of the final over. Stoinis made brilliant connections on most occasions and Prasidh couldn't quite hold his nerves. However debutant Kuldeep Sen did hold his nerves in the final over and bowled three successive dot deliveries to seal the deal for his team. He conceded a four and a six of the final two deliveries but it didn't matter as he had already won them the game in the first four deliveries.
