So that's it from this enthralling match between the two newbies Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants. GT with a win will go back home happy while LSG has some thinking to do before they line-up for the next game. It's a ta-ta bye, bye from us. I am AkshayaKrishna Polya who is signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Ninaad Dixit and Anirudh Modi along with our scorer/analyst Paras Yadav. We will meet in the next match where SRH will take on RR tomorrow which will come live from Pune. Until then, it's cheers..!!
Mohammed Shami | Man of the Match"Yes, the conditions really suited the swing ball here. Nothing much, I just had a good warm up coming into the bowl my first delivery. It helped me to fine right line and lengths today. For the left handers I usually try to bowl on their discomfort zones. So I came around the wicket and bowled a booming inswinger to de Kock. If the left hander is comfortable from around the wicket then I will go back to over the wicket but today it wasn't needed. Yeah, I asked Hardik to give me the fourth over. But he said it's a long tournament and I don't want you to get some niggles around. Yeah, hope that I will be fit and fine till the end of this tournament."
Hardik Pandya | GT Captain: "Absolutely, I mean it's a great game for us on either ends. We won the game which is good for us. Absolutely, Shami bowled really well. He was bowling those awkward line and lengths which made the batters to get in trouble. I will take 160 on this wicket any given day. No, not really because of the humidity around the stadium. I though it's not good to give fourth over in the trot for Shami. I think our batting needs to do well a bit more. Abhinav Manohar, see he is a young talent and you will hear more about him in the near future. Tewatia was sensational as well. On any given day, it happens. Brother gets you, and I am not at all unhappy with that."
Rahul Tewatia: "The wicket was very good today, I spoke to Miller and we decided to take the game as deep as possible. We will take a chance for a big over, that was the one after the Strategic Timeout. I told Miller I'm going to go in this over. Bishnoi was bamboozled by that reverse sweep six but it was still important to focus on every ball. Abhinav is a clean striker, I have seen this from Day 1. He is going to play his shots as we all saw, but it's important to come in and showcase his skills. I had belief in his abilities, if he had strike, he would have smacked the bowlers too and he did. The cap morale is very light, everyone is focusing on their processes and on the practice sessions. Ashish Nehra has kept the mood upbeat in the dressing room. When Shami bowled that beautiful spell, followed by the medium pacers, I don't think I was needed to bowl after that."
KL Rahul, LSG Captain: "It was a phenomenal game. What a way to start th e campaign. Obviously, starting off with the bat like that is not ideal but the way we recovered was phenomenal and gives us confidence that the batters in the middle and lower order can do the job for us. It gives the top order so much confidence and freedom. We know at Wankhede in the first innings the ball can do something initially. If we can get through that, then it would be ideal for our batting unit. But it was a confidence booster and I don't think we could have started the campaign in any better way. A win would have been great but I think so much to take away from this game and something to learn for us. Sometimes you need to give it to the quality of the bowler (on the start the team got). We all know what Shami can do and he has done this time and again with the red ball but obviously with the white ball as well if there is some help and if there is anyone that can exploit it is Shami. I have played a lot with him over the last three or four years in the previous franchise and I know he could be dangerous. It's good to see Shami bowling so well. If you get a start like that then you are obviously behind the game and try to chase the game but with they way we finished and with the way we batted towards the second half, we gave ourselves a really good chance and with the bowl, till the fourteenth or the 15th over we were really in the game and I don't want to use this as excuse but we have seen this over the years in the IPL as well that it really gets difficult for the bowlers to grip the ball in the second innings. It's something we would like to go back and practice again, bowling with the wet ball. We have practiced a lot but under pressure in a game situation becomes so much harder but the boys tried really hard, we executed most of our plans, we bowled where we wanted. Credits to Tewatia and Abhinav as they played some good shots in the gaps and got going. Good win for them and good learning for us. Ayush Badoni is Baby AB for us. He is just phenomenal, from the first day in the camp the way he was batting was just unbelievable. The shots that he hits is so clean for a little boy, he plays 360 degrees and you need young guys like that to come in the team and showcase what they can do and so happy for AB, he worked really hard and to get an opportunity, he grabbed it. I know when he walked in, it was high pressure for him, half the team was back in the pavilion. I don't think it was ideal for him to bat but he has beaten the pressure which will give him and us lot of confidence. Hopefully he can earn momentum and confidence to repeat the performance in the upcoming games as well."
Overall, a great start for GT but a learning curve for LSG. Two crucial points for the winners. Next match for LSG is against CSK on Thursday while GT will take on DC on Saturday.

Earlier, Hardik Pandya of Gujarat Titans won the toss and opted to bowl first. KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock opened for Lucknow Super Giants. Mohammed Shami with the new ball changed the complexion of the match completely as he bowled a brilliant outswinger first up to catch the outside edge of KL Rahul’s bat for a golden duck which was confirmed then by a brilliant review by Hardik. Shami didn’t stop here as he got through the defenses off Quinton de Kock (7 off 9) next up. Shubman Gill, then probably took a catch of the tournament to send back Evin Lewis (10 off 9) back to the dugout. Manish Pandey (6 off 5) too couldn’t handle the fiery Shami as he succumbed to become his third victim.

GT would have thought that they could wrap up the things quickly but they were wrong. Deepak Hooda and young Ayush Badoni held both the ends with their resilient batting. First they rebuilt the innings through good running between the wickets and later they changed their gears. Hooda first and then deep in the innings Badoni took over. Hooda smashed spin wizard Rashid Khan and others to bring up his fifty. A well-played fifty (55 off 41) only came to an end when Rashid got him dead plumb which was then confirmed through a review. Before the dismissal, these two added 93-runs for the fifth wicket. Krunal Pandya then joined hands with Badoni to add a few more crucial runs for the team. They took on Shami and Varun Aaron in the slog overs to get their team past the 150. Badoni (54 off 41) on his debut appearance in IPL contributed with a crucial fifty. He was the sixth batter to go as he miscued one straight up in the air. Krunal (21 off 13) and Chameera (1 off1), made them post a respectable score on the board. They posted 158/6 in their 20–overs.

Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers with figures off 4-0-25-3 (It's the first time that Shami has taken three wickets in the powerplay) while Varun Aaron took a couple of wickets but it cost him 45-runs. Rashid took a wicket and was economical too. Lockie Ferguson and Hardik Pandya who bowled after a few months didn’t have any luck in terms of wickets.

Akshaya: Gujarat Titans win by 5-wickets. A see-saw of a match that ends well for GT. First game in the IPL and straightaway on the points table with two points.

Chasing a decent total of 159-runs, Gujarat Titans too didn’t start well. Dushmantha Chameera was too good for Shubman Gill (0 off 3) and Vijay Shankar (4 off 6). Gill was trying a slog early on but Vijay got a proper pacey yorker. Then Matthew Wade and skipper Hardik Pandya settled the nerves as these stitched together a partnership of 57-runs for the third wicket. Hardik (33 off 28) was striking them right from the middle of the bat before miscuing a slog in his brother Krunal’s over.

Later, Deepak Hooda made Wade (30 off 29) go across the line and pay the price for it. Hooda and Krunal were doing the job well for their side in the middle overs. But two southpaws, David Miller and Rahul Tewatia joined hands together and started to take on the spinners. They first damaged Hooda’s figures and then went on to smash Ravi Bishnoi all around the park. They put one exactly 50-runs for the fifth wicket before Miller (30 off 21) slashed one to Rahul at extra-cover who juggled a bit to take the catch. Then the promising Karnataka domestic player Abhinav Manohar struck some crucial boundaries alongside Tewatia. With needing 11-runs to win from the last over, Abhinav Manohar (15 off 7) took on Avesh Khan to get close to the target. Tewatia (40 off 24) finished the match with a cracking cover drive. They chased down the target with a couple of balls remaining.

Dushmantha Chameera was brilliant with the ball as he took 2-wikets for 22-runs in his 3-overs. But he didn't get the fourth over which might be the difference. Have seen KL struggling to make bold decisions in the middle overs. Krunal Pandya Bowled well and took a wicket for just 17-runs in his 4-overs. Avesh Khan got a wicket to his name but couldn't stop GT from scoring required 11-runs in the final over. Deepak Hooda though got Wade, was taken to the cleaners by Rahul Tewatia and David Miller.

Akshaya: Yes, yes, yes, Gujarat Titans gets their first win in their first match of the IPL.

1 Ah! A muted delivery after two boundaries to start the over! But Gujarat inch towards victory! Avesh bangs it in short, and it angles in towards his helmet, Manohar swivels and hooks it to deep fine leg for a single. 2 required from 3.
Now they need 3 from 4 balls.
19.2 A Khan to A Manohar
4 FOURRRRR!!!!! 3 REQUIRED FROM 4 NOW! Another brilliant shot by Manohar and he has creamed it through the off side! Good length delivery, wide outside the off stump, Manohar frees his arms and cracks it through cover point to send the ball skipping and racing away to the boundary!

Short of the wicket delivery, on the off stump, Manohar pulls it brilliantly towards the mid-wicket boundary and it appears to have landed just before the ropes! YES, IT'S A FOURR!!!! THAT WAS A TOUGH CALL!
11 needed form 6-balls. An absolute edge of the seat thriller here between the two new sides. Avesh Khan with the last over. Super over? LSG win? GT win?
