The Invincibles batted first and had a nightmarish start to their innings. Gleeson and Little ran through their top order for a combined 23 runs leaving them reeling at 23/3 after 18 deliveries. Skipper Sam Billings took matters into his own hands as he smashed an entertaining 53 runs off 33 balls and cameos by Sam Curran and Tom Curran ensured the Invincibles crossed the 140 run-mark and put up a competitive total for the Originals to chase.
Joshua Little registered the best ever figures in The Hundred’s history as he picked up 5/13 from his 20 deliveries.
Come the chase, Phil Salt got his team off to a fast start before perishing for 19 runs from 14 balls after losing his skipper for a paltry score of 9 runs. Wayne Madsen ensured the Originals did not lose their way, as he stayed on until the end to score 53 runs off 39 balls while wickets kept tumbling around him at regular intervals.
However, the Oval Invincibles made things very tough for the Originals in the back end of the chase, as the Originals needed 11 runs off the last set. But cometh the hour, cometh the man, Paul Walter with his iffy shoulder stepped up to ensure his team crossed the finish line and knocked the Invincibles out of the tournament!
Danny Briggs was the pick of the bowlers for the Invincibles as he picked up 2/22 from his 20 deliveries.
Manchester Originals will be ecstatic with this fantastic win as they stay live to fight another day! As for Oval Invincibles, they had an excellent tournament but fail to make it to the knock out stages.
