That's it from the quarter-final between Australia and Pakistan of the ICC U19World Cup. Australia have progressed to the semi-final where they will meet the winners of India vs Bangladesh. Cooper Connolly (Captain Australia): There was some discussion for us before the game about what we wanted to do. In the end, we were happy to bat first. I feel like when Wyllie comes to the crease and plays a few shots, I know he is on and I can sit down, relax. With the bowling, we were quite accurate and hit the right lines. We are a very strong bowling unit with good variation of pace.
Qasim Akram (Captain Pakistan): We didn't bowl well after winning the toss. Australia batted well, got solid partnerships, credit to their batters. 276 was a big total but we didn't bat well enough to try.
Teague Wyllie (Player of the Match): It was nice to get a good score on the board and contribute. Wasn't an easy wicket to bat but we did well. Was doing a bit early on, some sideways movement and some swing. Then, when the spinners came on, some would skid and some would grip. I try to give myself some more time and contribute. Pretty good to get to the semifinal.
Australia have managed to bowl out Pakistan for 157 runs in 35.1 overs to win the match by 119 runs. It has been a dominant display by the men in yellow. They set a target of 277 for the Pakistan batter and have backed it up with a brilliant bowling display.
Earlier in the day Pakistan won the toss and decided to bowl first. The ball was doing a lot early in the match but the Australian batters managed to give themselves a solid foundation without losing any early wickets. Pakistan got their first breakthrough in the 16th over of the game as Qasim Akram sent Kellaway back to the pavilion. Miller came in next and batted alongside Wyllie. They helped Australia get past 150 in 35 overs. Just when Wyllie was starting to look dangerous, he was dismissed and Australia were 187-2 in 37.4 overs. Pakistan managed to pull things back with a few key wickets in the final half of the game. Pakistan kept chipping at the Australian batting order and we're able to restrict them from putting a big total on the board. Salzman's cameo, in the end, helped the Aussie side put up 276 runs on the board at the end of fifty overs.
Pakistan started the chase in the worst possible fashion losing two wickets early on. They did recover post that and managed to stick around for a good while. But post the drinks break after the 15th over they somehow lost their way and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. There were a few cameo's by some of the Pakistan batters but they didn't really had enough wickets in hand to trouble the Australian bowling unit. Mumtaz was their top scorer with 29 runs, he played an attacking cameo towards the end. It hardly had any effect on the match situation as Pakistan had already lost more than half of their batters. In the end, they ended up getting bowled out for 157 runs in 35.1 overs. William Salzmann was the pick of the Australian bowlers with 3 wickets for 37 runs in 8.1 overs. Overall, it was a great performance by the boys from down under.
