That brings an end to our coverage for this game. The race to the semi-finals is getting interesting. Do join us tomorrow for more cricketing action around the globe. For now, this is me, Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Akshayakrishna Polya and scorer Paras Yadav. Tata. Bye bye.

Aaron Finch | Australia Skipper: "It was a good performance. Getting 180 was a decent effort. We wanted to lay a platform for a strong finish. David is having a slight tightness and has nothing to worry about. A lot of planning goes around and the decision to bowl Maxwell paid off tonight. That’s a big game tomorrow between England and New Zealand and we would have pushed to knock them over under 100 but credit to them to fight back. Tucker played a hell of a knock in the end."

Andrew Balbirnie | Ireland Skipper: "It was a high-fought clash. We bowled pretty well in the first half but were a bit sloppy in the last part of the first innings. The wickets column was a big problem but Tucker has had a very good world cup and good to see him contribute."

Aaron Finch | Player of the Match: "Yeah, thanks, mate. It was quite a slower pitch. It wasn't the easiest wicket, and it was much slower than we expected. They bowled well, cutters and all, but it was difficult to get into a rhythm. To be honest, I'm not feeling any pressure at all. The change room and support staff have been tremendously helpful. T20 is a high-risk game that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. It wasn't easy to get out there and start bowling right away. I've had a hammy twing; I don't feel too bad right now, but it can stiffen up overnight; we'll see how it goes; I'll have a scan tomorrow."
Aaron Finch is named the Player of the Match for his knock of 63 at the top of the order.
Akshay | 04:52 PM IST: That’s the end of the match. An all-round effort sees Australia beat Ireland by 42 runs to move to the second spot in the points table. Chasing 180, Ireland couldn’t recover from the top-order collapse as they get knocked over on 137 to lose the game by 42 runs. With this, the Aussies grab two crucial points here at the Gabba.

Chasing 180 was always going to be a tough task and the Irish side got off to the worst start. Andrew Cummins knocked over Andrew Balbirnie in the second over. Glenn Maxwell picked up two wickets in the third over. Mitchell Starc was unplayable in his first over as he knocked over two Irish batters as Ireland reeled at 25/5 at the end of four overs. Lorcan Tucker looked positive at the crease and played some exquisite strokes. He along with Gareth Delany led the recovery work.

The Aussies bowled well in the middle phase as the boundaries dried up. The 43-run stand was broken as Delany was dismissed on 14. Tucker stood tall against the Australian bowlers but lacked support from the other end as the Irish side kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Tucker brought up his fifty and remained unbeaten on 71 but it wasn’t enough as they got bundled out on 137 to lose the game by 42 runs. Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, and Adam Zampa picked up two wickets apiece as they completed a convincing win over Ireland.

Earlier in the day, Irish skipper Balbirnie won the toss and opted to bowl first. They had a very good start as they dismissed David Warner early in the innings. Australia managed to score only 38 at the end of the powerplay. Mitchell Marsh along with Aaron Finch tried to resurrect the innings but the former fell on 28. It was a short stay for Maxwell as he departed on 13. Finch along with Marcus Stoinis started building a partnership.

Finch played some wonderful strokes and brought up his fifty. Stoinis hit some lusty blows as they pounced on anything loose in the middle overs. They were helped by some poor bowling from the Irish bowlers as the runs came thick and fast for the hosts. The 70-run stand came to an end when Finch holed out in the deep on 63. Stoinis scored 35 which helped Australia post 179 on the board. Barry McCarthy was the pick of the bowlers for Ireland as he picked up three wickets, giving away 29 runs in his four overs. Joshua Little also finished with figures of 2/21. The Irish batters failed to step up as they were knocked over on 137 by the World Champions. Stick around for the post-match presentation.

Run Out Check. Maxwell dislodges the bails and Little is just short of the crease. OUT is displayed on the big screen and that's the end of the match.
18.1 G Maxwell to J Little
W Around the wicket. Fuller on the middle stump. Little reverse sweeps it straight to Mitchell Marsh at backward point. He throws it on the bounce to the bowler as maxwell collects it and dislodges the bails. They run through for a run, and Little is too late on it. Despite the drag of his bat, Little is short of his ground as the TV umpire replay says. OUT. Australia win by 42 runs!

17.2 P Cummins to B McCarthy
W WICKETT!! Short ball on the middle stump. McCarthy pulls it with disdain but fails to get enough elevation on it. It goes flat in the air but straight down the throat of the fielder at deep mid-wicket. Steven Smith at deep mid-wicket doesn't drop these sitters.
17.1 P Cummins to B McCarthy
0 Short and outside the off. McCarthy backs away and misses the cut. A crucial dot ball for Ireland as they can't afford for these slip-aways.
