Match Details
Earlier in the game, it was stand-in skipper Jos Buttler won the toss and had no hesitation to field first. Eoin Morgan missed the game due to a long-standing groin injury. The Dutch didn’t get off to a great start as they lost Vikramjit Singh to David Willey for 6 runs. Max O’ Dowd and Tom Cooper put a decent partnership of 72 runs as Cooper scored 33 after being dropped by Livingstone on 0. Max O’ Dowd contributed with 50 before he was the third player to be dismissed. Thereafter, a great partnership between Bas de Leede and Scott Edwards took the Dutch to 203-3 from 119-3. It was an 84-run partnership between the duo before Bas de Leede got out at the end of the 40th over with the score reading 203-4. He made 56 his maiden ODI fifty. Then the innings just spiraled downhill as Scott Edwards lost his partners at regular intervals. He himself got out in the end as he was the 9th wicket to fall. He top-scored with 64 off 72 balls. After Edwards, nobody got into double digits as 20 extras by England contributed to 244 all out in 49.2 overs. An under-par score on this pitch.
From England’s
point of view, David Willey was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 4
wickets in his 8.2 4 for 36. David Payne picked up a wicket in the end on debut
as he bowled 9 overs for 35 runs for the wicket. Sam Curran had an underwhelming
day as his 6 overs accounted for 35 runs. Brydon Carse was a tad expensive in
his 8 overs 2 for 49. Liam Livingstone bowled 8 overs for 40 runs alongside
picking up a wicket as well. Adil Rashid bowled a solid spell as he bowled 10
overs 1 for 41. A great bowling performance meant that the Dutch were limited
to 244. Ideally, they would have liked 300 to challenge this English side.
So, a win for England by 8 wickets with 19.5 overs to spare as they go top of the World Super League Points table. Stay tuned for the post-match presentation coming your way soon.
