Match Details
That is it. 100 overs of the highest quality. Both India and Australia were extraordinary today. Indians did their best to challenge the Australian record winning streak, they almost broke the impossible. But Beth Mooney came in between. Wickets kept on falling in front of her, but the opener never lost her cool and applied herself to the conditions.
When the host nation were four-down inside 16 overs at the score of 52 runs, Mooney took the Australia ship forward alongside Tahlia McGrath. The duo stemmed a much-required 126-run partnership, where the latter played the aggressor. However, with almost 100 runs to get, Deepti Sharma brought the Indians back in the game by removing McGrath on 74.
Still, it wasn't like Mooney was left alone in the middle as Nicola Carey aided her in the last overs. She stood with the Aussie opener and never let the senior-pro take extra pressure on her shoulders. The southpaw duo took the chase as deep as they could, before notching boundaries on will. In the last over, India almost cliched the game - but destiny had different plans as Jhulam Goswami's last delivery of the 50th over was checked thoroughly and later signalled as no ball. Then Australia rode high on the luck as he grabbed a win from the throat of the Indian lionhearts.
All in all, the Aussie winning streak has not been broken, it has gone upto 26 ODIs now. You need to feel for Goswami. You need to feel for Smriti. You need to feel for Richa. You need to feel for Pooja. You need to feel for Meghna. You need to feel for MIthali. You need to feel for India. The ladies played their hearts out.
