Arya: So that's it for today, like always it was a pleasure for all three of us to bring the live commentary and match updates for you. Till tomorrow, tata and bye from me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and my co-commentators Akshay Bhide and Kingshuk Kusari.
Arya: While Davies' innings turned the momentum towards the Sydney Thunder, it was skipper Callum Ferguson who held the innings together and scored an unbeaten half-century to see this side through. The Scorchers came back a bit towards the fag conceding only 7 runs from the 17th and the 18th over. However with Ben Cutting and Ferguson still there it was always going to be huge ask for the Scorchers to see this game through. Eventually, Cutting struck some mighty blows during his knock of 29 of 16 deliveries which were laced with 4 fours and a solitary maximum. In the end, the Thunders reached the target with 3 deliveries to spare.
Arya: Chasing the target of 153, the Sydney Thunder were under the pump from the word go and the Scorchers tightened their screws on the run chase. Thunder lost Alex Hales in the very first over and Usman Khawaja after striking some crisp boundaries fell of the bowling of Aaron Hardie. The game-changing innings came from the blade of Olivier Davies as he smashed a few lusty blows en route to his knock of 36 of 22 deliveries which was studded with a four and 3 maximums.
Arya: After a long time, Cameron Bancroft got himself among the runs and shared a vital stand of 61 runs with Mitchell Marsh. He remained unbeaten on 34 of 26 deliveries and did whatever possible to get the Scorchers past the 150 mark. The target of 153 was always going to be below par and despite a valiant effort from their bowlers, the Thunder completed a victory in the final over.
Arya: The top order was send back cheaply and it was only when Ashton Turner came to join Mitchell Marsh in the crease that the Scorchers got some solidity in their innings. Turner looked in great touch during his brief cameo of 23 of 14 deliveries while Mitchell Marsh played the anchor’s role and carried his bat through the innings, remaining unbeaten on 52 of 41 deliveries.
Arya: Earlier in the day it was the Sydney Thunder skipper Callum Ferguson who won the toss and opted to field. It was a sensational start from the Thunder bowlers as they never really allowed the top order batsman from the Scorchers to get under their skin. They bowled the right line and lengths and kept chipping away with the wickets.
Arya: So, in the end, it proved an easy win for the Sydney Thunder as they rack up their 2nd win of the tournament in 3 matches. It was a good all-round showing from the Thunder. Riding on an impressive bowling performance and a captain’s knock from Callum Ferguson, Thunder won the game in the final over. Despite some impressive bowling in the last few overs from the Scorchers, it wasn’t enough to stop the Thunder from registering a 7 wickets victory with 3 deliveries to spare.
19.3 Andrew Tye to Ben Cutting
4 That's it. A full toss outside off, Cutting drives this in the gap in the cover region for a boundary. They beat Scorchers by 7 wickets.
19.2 Andrew Tye to Ben Cutting
0 A well directed bouncer and Cutting sways out of it
Kingshuk: Just one needed and the lack of runs have come back to haunt the Scorchers
19.1 Andrew Tye to Ben Cutting
4 FOUR!!! That will be the game for the Thunder. Short outside off, Cutting slaps this past covers for a boundary
Akshay: 5 runs to win from the last over. Andrew Tye to bowl the last over.
