Commentary

The India U-19 captain Priyam Garg has been awarded the 'Man of the Match' award for his scintillating fifty. He had this to say. Priyam Garg: Felt really good today and this (IPL) is a good stage and to be sharing it with senior players was special. I was just trying to play my natural game and credit to team management for backing me and giving me confidence. I wanted to play my natural shots and back my strengths as I'm aware of the range of my shots. I was playing with Abhishek since childhood and we both know each other's game very well which really helped today. I tried to maintain a positive energy with bat and carried the same level of confidence in the fielding. Really happy.

SRH skipper David Warner also spoke about why he went with Abdul Samad for the last over. David Warner: I backed him. I had no option. With Khaleel there, with five balls to bowl, we tried to kill the game there. Could have given it to Abhishek, but I felt with his height and how he bowled, I'd go with him. This wicket was a little bit bad as compared to the last one we played here. You don't really get that length to pull. It was good to see a bit of swing early on. It was nice to see our guys back themselves - that was my message to these youngsters. I said it in my press conference - when these guys don't get opportunity to bat time, it's going to be difficult for them. I asked them what they thought was a good total, they said 150, we got 160-170. [Bowling at the death] These guys work really hard, 20 minutes at the start is these guys executing yorkers, length and slower balls. We work on that, executing those skills when we need to.

MS Dhoni: I was not able to middle a lot of deliveries, maybe trying to hit the ball too hard. Looking at the outfield, it was subconscious. I'm alright, the throat starts to get dry in these sort of conditions. Long time back, we may or may not have lost three in a row. We have to get a lot of things right. It's the professionalism - dropping catches, bowling no-balls. We're making the same mistakes again. After the 16th over, we had two bad overs. Overall we could have been slightly better. Nobody wants to drop catches, but at this level you have to draw a line that these catches have to be taken. Catches like these can really hamper your knockout stage games. What if this was a knockout game? There are plenty of positives in this game. A few areas to improve and we'll come back stronger.

With four wickets down, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja tried to stabilise the inning before going big with the SRH spinners also not giving a lot away. It was only when CSK needed 86 of 24 balls that Jadeja started to get going with a flurry of boundaries off Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Thangarasu Natarajan. However, Jadeja got out immediately after reaching his fifty. With two overs to go and 44 required to pull off an improbable victory, Bhuvneshwar Kumar could have sealed a win for SRH with his final six deliveries itself but he suffered an unfortunate injury after bowling just one ball. SRH's premier pacer tried hard to continue but Khaleel Ahmed had to be called into bowl the remaining five balls. With Dhoni smashing a four and a six to reduce the equation to 28 required off the last over. The problem for CSK was that Dhoni also seemed drained out as he kept taking breaks during Khaleel's penultimate over. This played into the inexperienced leg-spinner Abdul Samad's hands as Dhoni couldn't power his shots. Samad also did well to make a strong come-back after delivering five wides to start the over. Eventually, Sam Curran hit a six off the last ball but it was too little, too late as CSK lost by seven runs

So, despite that last ball six from Curran, CSK go down by seven runs. With some swing on offer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed and Thangarasu Natarajan troubled the CSK top-order. Bhuvneshwar Kumar had Shane Watson played on while Thangarasu Natarajan castled Ambati Rayudu with an unplayable delivery. Faf du Plessis returned back to the pavilion soon enough via a slightly unfortunate run-out. Things only got worse when Kedar Jadhav chipped an easy catch to David Warner at cover to put CSK in deeper misery.
