ICC won't be laying any charges on former Pakistan cricketer Mansoor Akhtar

The International Cricket Council's (ICC) Anti-Corruption Unit senior manager Steve Richardson clarified that no charge of fixing was being brought against him in a letter to former Pakistan cricketer Mansoor Akhtar. Mansoor has been cleared of fixing charges by the ICC. Former Pakistan international Umar Akmal accused the former cricketer in 2019 of approaching him for fixing in Canada's Global T20 League. Umar had informed the PCB's anti-corruption unit and the event organisers about the situation. Akmal was a Winnipeg Hawks' management team member, including Akhtar. The ACU Senior Manager clarified in a letter to the 64-year-old that no charge of fixing was being brought against him. "I am writing to inform you of the outcome of the investigation into the corrupt approach that you allegedly made to a player in October 2019," the letter read. "This information has previously been notified to you via WhatsApp. The investigation has now concluded, and the ICC will not be laying any charges against you. Decisions have been made, taking into account many factors however, if any further evidence comes to notice the ICC reserves the right to reopen the investigation. We would like to thank you for your cooperation with the investigation," further read the letter. Between 1980 and 1990, Mansoor appeared in 19 Tests and 41 One-Day Internationals.

T20 World Cup | Shoaib Malik hits fastest-ever fifty for Pakistan in T20I history

Shoaib Malik was at his lethal best tonight against Scotland in their last Super 12 game at the T20 World Cup 2021. He came back with an instinct of scoring fast at his arrival at the crease, Pakistan were 112-3 in 15 overs and needed acceleration. That is when Malik took it upon himself to deliver. The right-hander hit only a single four and six sixes five of which came in the last two overs as he reached his fifty in only 18 balls, the fastest ever for Pakistan, breaking the previous record of 22 ball fifty held by Umar Akmal. This is also the joint-fastest fifty in this edition of the World cup as he equalled India's KL Rahul’s 18 ball fifty record Which was also incidentally achieved against Scotland. Courtesy of this fifty from Malik, which is his ninth in 121 T20I games, Pakistan managed to reach 189 in their 20 overs, scoring 67 off the last 24 balls. Malik, 39 is also one of the oldest to hit an international T20 fifty. Apart from Malik, Babar Azam also hit a fifty in the game and he also equalled a record for most fifty in one edition of the T20 World Cup, achieved jointly by Virat Kohli and Matthew Hayden in different World Cups.

Umar Akmal joins league cricket in California; scores golden duck on debut

Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal scored a golden duck on his debut for Northern California Cricket Association. The right-handed batsman had left Pakistan to feature in league cricket in the USA and signed a short-term contract with Northern California. Umar had made a return to the game after the completion of his ban for breaching the PCB's anti-corruption code. While the board had helped him follow his rehabilitation program, he wasn’t considered for the selection in the top domestic teams and was asked to play for a second XI side. Due to this, he missed out on being a part of the National T20 tournament. The right-hander didn’t impress much while playing for the Central Punjab Second XI in the PCB Cricket Associations T20 tournament and managed to score 0, 14, 7, 16 and 29 during the course. One of his family members said that Umar wasn’t given a “fair treatment” on making a return. “There are a few others who were banned with bigger charges but given unprecedented support to make a comeback. The system was never fair to Umar. There were blatant compromises made to select a few players with poor fitness, but the benchmark was made tighter for him [Umar] to make sure keep him out."

Umar Akmal pays PKR 4.5 million fine to PCB, could rejoin professional cricket

Pakistan’s controversial kid Umar Akmal, after several attempts to get any rebate in paying his 4.5 Million Pakistani Rupees fine to the Pakistan Cricket Board for breaching the anti-corruption code, has finally submitted the amount in total. With this, the Lahore born would now be able to join PCB’s Anti-Corruption rehabilitation program and get back to professional cricket. Earlier in February this year, the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) had shortened his 18-month ban, imposed on him by PCB in February 2020, to just 12 months on the condition that he paid PKR 4.5 Million to the board. "Umar has deposited the full amount of 4.5 million rupees with the board which means he is now eligible to start the rehab program of the Anti-Corruption code of the board," a source close to PCB was quoted as saying by Cricket.com However, the junior Akmal who celebrates his 31st birthday today, May 26, would have to wait sometime before he begins to play professionally. "Practically it will take some time before Akmal can resume his cricket career as his rehab program would take a while to be completed as the anti-corruption unit of the PCB is presently busy with the Pakistan Super League matches to be held in Abu Dhabi next month," the source revealed. Umar, who debuted in 2009, has so far played 221 matches for Pakistan, scoring 7887 runs across all formats.

Kamran Akmal ready to pay fine for brother Umar, wants him to start rehabilitation programme

Wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal has come out in support of his brother Umar Akmal after offering to pay the fine imposed on his brother from his own PSL fee. He feels that it is important for Umar Akmal to start the rehabilitation programme. The 30-year-old cricketer hasn't played any forms of cricket since February 2020 after being suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not reporting several corrupt approaches from bookies. The approach was made to him before the start of the PSL matches. Umar Akmal had requested the Pakistan board to accept his fine of 4.25 million rupees in instalments as he was going through a financial crisis. The fine was imposed on him by the Court of Arbitration for Sports back in February. He had failed to pay his instalments which halted his return to competitive cricket. “I am willing to pay the fine for my brother. I request the PCB they can deduct the amount from any payments due to me for my PSL matches,” Kamran said on Sunday. “The money should not be such a big issue. They can deduct from my fees and even Umar whenever he plays his money will also come through the PCB only. I request the PCB to show some leniency and Umar is ready to pay the fine,” he further explained. The Court of Arbitration for Sport had reduced the ban on Umar to just 12 months but imposed a hefty fine on him for breaching PCB’s Anti-Corruption Code. It was back in April 2020 that PCB found Umar Akmal guilty of separate breaches of conduct. He has eventually handed a three-year suspension.

Umar Akmal needs to pay fine in full to restart his career says PCB source

Rejecting Umar Akmal’s claims of financial crisis, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has rejected Akmal’s proposal of paying his fine of 4.25 million rupees in instalments. If he pays the fine in time, Umar will be eligible for selection in the national team after serving a year ban for breaching several clauses of the Anti-Corruption Code. As per reports in the Times of India, it is learnt that the PCB wanted Umar to submit taxation and other documents which will prove that he is indeed facing some financial struggles. "The PCB was not satisfied with Umar's argument that he was facing financial difficulties at the moment after it had studied his documents. The Pakistan batsman also did not submit all documents asked for by the board," a well-informed source of the PCB was quoted by the Times of India. He further added that Umar has been clearly asked to pay the fine in full and until and unless he clears the fine, the tainted cricketer won’t be able to resume his cricketing ties with Pakistan and the rehabilitation process which is mandatory for any banned players under the Anti-Corruption Code. It must be learnt that the Court of Arbitration for Sport has reduced the ban of Umar Akmal to just 12 months but it’s necessary for him to pay the fine of Rs 4.25 million. He breached PCB’s anti-corruption code on several occasions besides being a controversial character during his playing days. Umar Akmal was suspended in February 202o after he failed to report corrupt approaches which were made to him before the curtain-raiser of the fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League. The disciplinary panel of PCB found him guilty under two separate charges and subsequently handed him a three-year ban. Meanwhile, sources close to Umar Akmal said that he was indeed going through a financial crisis as he had to pay a lot for the lawyers for this ongoing case.

Umar Akmal requests PCB to accept his fine in instalment, board rejects proposal

Pakistan cricketer Umar Akmal who has been a part of several controversies in the past has asked to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to accept his fine in instalments. Akmal who was suspended would consider himself lucky after his tenure was reduced to 12 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) but he was levied with a fine of PKR 4.25 million. However, reports have emerged that due to an apparent financial crisis, Umar Akmal has requested the board to accept the fine in instalments. Umar Akmal was suspended at the start of 2020 after he failed to report multiple approaches of corruption. He was suspended for three months but it was later revised twice. Eventually, the reduced suspension period was down to 12 months provided he pays the fine within the due date. Reports in the Pakistan media suggests that Umar reached out to the PCB stating that he would only be able to clear the fine in instalments as his financial state isn’t that great. However, the board has rejected the proposal and the plan of action will be interesting to see in the near future. Any Pakistani cricketer who is found guilty under any corruption case, he/she has to undergo a rehabilitation process after serving the suspension. In Umar’s case, he was found guilty of violating article 2.4.4 of the PCB Anti-corruption code. Umar Akmal was subsequently banned from all forms of cricket and was additionally levied a fine of PKR 4.25 million. Umar Akmal has been out of the international radar for quite a long time now. He last featured for Pakistan in a T20I encounter against Zimbabwe back in 2019. It will be testing times for Umar now to clear his fines.
