Player Bio

A student of Wesley College, Colombo, from where a plethora of international Sri Lankan cricketers come, Jeffrey Vandersay falls in the same list.

A clever right-arm leg-break bowler, who is also known to be handy with the bat lower down the order.

Vandersay made his Twenty-20 International debut against Pakistan in July 2015. He was unable to take a wicket and finished with figures of 25 runs from 4 overs in that game.

In the same year, the 32-year-old made his One Day International debut against New Zealand in December. He had a bad outing and ended up scoring just 7 runs with the bat and conceded 34 runs in 2 overs with the ball in hand.

The leggie was also included in the Sri Lanka squad for the 2016 ICC World Cup.

In May 2018, the right-arm leg-spinner was named to Sri Lanka's Test squad for their series against the West Indies but did not feature in the playing XI. On June 23, 2018, Vandersay was sent home by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) after a breach of his player contract regarding disciplinary issues. He was handed a one-year suspended sentence and a 20% fine off his annual contract after he was found in a nightclub in ST. Lucia.

Later in May 2018, he was one of 33 cricketers to be awarded a national contract by Sri Lanka cricket ahead of the 2018–19 season, and in April 2019, he was named in the Sri Lankan squad for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Vandersay has been in and out of the team because of bad form and other disciplinary issues. The talented spinner has a great wrong’un and can be really tough to handle on slow-low turner tracks. He is currently a permanent member of Sri Lanka's Test side.
