Player Bio

A right-handed batter, Umesha Thimashini plays for the Sri Lankan women’s cricket team. A technically sound player, Thimashini made her international debut in 2019.

The youngster has been a regular feature for FOG-Seenigama Ladies in domestic cricket and has performed well for them over the years.

Thimashini got a chance to make her international debut in the T20I series against South Africa in 2019. She made her debut in the first T20I match and had an underwhelming debut, scoring just 3 runs and not getting a chance to bowl.

The Rathgam-born got another chance to impress the selectors in the ODI leg of that series. The Rathgama born was included in the ODI squad, and was named in the playing XI for the first game of the series. But just like her T2OI debut, Thimashini was average in her first ODI game, scoring just 2 runs.

Since then, she has been in and out of the Sri Lankan setup mainly due to poor form and her inability to perform well with both bat & the ball. She was named in the Sri Lankan squad for the 2019 South Asian Games. The Islanders won the silver medal after losing the final against Bangladesh.

A good young batswoman, Thimashini has failed to capitalize on the opportunities presented to her at the international level. Still young at the moment, Thimashini has ample time to work on her weaknesses and work upon them.
