Born in Galle, Sanjeewani is a right-handed wicket-keeper batswoman who plays for the Sri Lankan national cricket team.
Sanjeewani has been a consistent performer for Southern Province Women in domestic cricket and as a result, was included in the Sri Lankan squad for their ODI series against India in 2014. She made her much-awaited debut in the third game of the series and was shockingly stumped before she could even open her account at the international level.
In the same year, Sanjeewani was awarded another lifeline and was given an opportunity to be a part of Sri Lanka’s T20I squad for their tour of India, and the wicket-keeper made her T20I debut in the first game of the series.
Post-2014, she has been in and out of the national side due to poor form and injuries. However, was still named in the squad for the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup held in Australia.
Despite being a consistent run-scorer in the domestic circuit, Sanjeewani has failed to live up to the expectations of the selectors. Injuries have hampered her career, but she still has quite a time left to make a mark at the international level.
