Player Bio

Born in Anamaduwa, Kumari is a slow left-arm orthodox spinner who plays for the Sri Lanka women’s cricket team.

A street smart finger spinner, Kumari made her international debut for Sri Lanka in 2015 and since then has performed well in the shorter formats of the game.

Kumari was part of the Sri Lankan squad for the 2015 ICC Women’s Championship, and played her first ODI match against Pakistan, picking up 3 wickets for 24 runs and continuously troubled the batters with her variations.

In the T20I leg that followed the ODI series, Kumari was named in the playing XI for the first T20I against Pakistan. She did not pick up a single wicket but managed to keep the run-rate down as the Pakistani batswoman found it difficult to play against Kumari.

Kumari was eventually dropped from the Sri Lanka setup due to her poor form with the ball but was recalled in the side for the three-match home ODI series against England in 2019.

Kumari was drafted in the Sri Lankan squad for the 2020 Women’s World T20I held in Australia, but she failed to make a mark in the tournament and went wicketless in the three matches that she played.

Kumari is a really good finger spinner who has all the talent in the world. However, she has failed to perform consistently at the international level and it has hampered her career so far.
