Player Bio

The most dependable top-order batswoman, Sanjida Islam is a mainstay in the Bangladesh Women’s team. Having moved to Dhaka in 2010 to fulfil her cricketing dreams, she returned back to Rangpur to play domestically and impressed the selectors enough to earn selection into the national side.

Sanjida made her international debut against Ireland on August 28th, 2012, and two years later she announced herself in the longer formats against Pakistan on March 6th, 2014. Both her debuts were disappointing for the youngster as she was dismissed on a duck in both games.

After a rather dismayed arrival on the international stages, the Rangpur-born batswoman bounced back in the national colours making 70 appearances in both formats until now. As well as her performance, Sanjida was a crucial part of the squad which came out victorious in the 2018 Women’s Asia Cup for the first time, defeating defending champions India.

One of the standout moments of her career was when she hit the third-highest T20 score for her country by a woman, striking an impressive 71 unbeaten off 60 balls against Thailand in 2019, helping her team win the T20 World Cup qualifiers. In the latter parts of 2019, the youngster was part of the Bangladesh Women’s team for the 2019 South Asian Games which won the gold medal in the final defeating Sri Lanka Women by 2 runs.

At 25 years of age, Sanjida is a key member of the Tigresses that has featured in major ICC tournaments and would be hoping to continue influencing her team and the youngsters in the current squad.
