Player Bio

An aggressive wicket-keeper batswoman, Shamima Sultana started her cricketing journey in 2014 against Pakistan and has been an ever-reliable part of the Bangladesh women’s setup.

Named as one of the Breakout stars in 2018 by ICC, it was in this year when she started emerging as a player. Her batting form has been explicable in the T20 formats and she became the first-ever player from the Bangladesh women’s team to score a T20 fifty when she blasted 51 runs off a terrific Proteas bowling line-up in May 2018.

Shamima was an integral part of the team when they went on to win their maiden Women’s Asia Cup title in 2018 which also earned her a spot in the 2019 South Asian Games where the Tigresses won the gold.

Her breakthrough year was 2018 when she really improved her technical skills and became a key opener for her country. Her brisk start set up Bangladesh’s first-ever win against India, and she carried that form into the ICC Women’s World T20 Qualifiers where she was among the top 10 run-getters.

Shamima has been exceptional behind the stumps and holds the record for the second-most dismissals(35) in T20 games for Bangladesh rocking behind Nigar Sultana. She also keeps wickets for Bangladesh and will look to turn her habit of providing starts into something more substantial in the upcoming years for the Tigresses.
