Player Bio

Born in Negombo, Ama Kanchana is a quality medium-pacer in the current Sri Lankan squad. Known for swinging the new ball, she is also familiar with chipping important runs down the order.

Ama started her first-class journey in the year 2007 and after six years of struggle in the domestic circuit, she made her international debut in 2013. On her ODI debut against South Africa, Ama along with Eshani Kaushalya recorded the highest eighth-wicket partnership in a Women’s T20 International match which was surpassed in November 2019.

Kanchana was particularly impressive in the ICC Women's World Cup 2017, scalping seven wickets in five matches. The Negombo-born all-rounder was picked in the squad for the 2018 T20 World Cup but featured in just one game against West Indies in which she was dismissed on a duck.

Ama’s recent form has been a mixture of ups and downs and her bowling has improved in recent years. One of her notable strengths is her consistency with line and length. Having played in 3 T20 World Cups and 1 ODI World Cup, currently, she is one of the most experienced bowlers in the Sri Lanka Women’s team.
