Player Bio

An amazing all-rounder, Amy Satterthwaite is a legendary cricketer both internationally as well as domestically for New Zealand Women’s team and Canterbury Magicians. She is one of the most promising talents of the country who has vast experience across all formats. Amy is a middle-order left-handed batswoman and has unique skills bowling right-arm medium-fast.

Amy Satterthwaite began her career as a right-arm medium pacer However, with the passage of time, the batting laid its dominance over the bowling, and she transformed herself into an off-spinner so that she doesn’t become injury prone.

The first time she caught the eyes of the selectors was in 2003 when she made a century representing in Canterbury’s trip to England. After that, she was named in the New Zealand A squad for their series against India but it took her four years later to make her debut in 2007 against Australia.

After not been given the ball in her first couple of games, Amy Satterthwaite reported the best T20I figures in women’s cricket. She claimed a 6-for against England and led her side to a 38 runs victory on August 16th, 2007.

Her breakthrough moment came in 2012 when she established herself more as a batter. Batting at an average of 50 for over a year, she was entitled to the New Zealand Women’s cricketer of the year award. She soon brought up her maiden international hundred against Australia and cemented her spot in the national squad after a decent World Cup in 2013, where New Zealand finished fourth.

After rejecting the semi-professional contract by the New Zealand board, she was axed from the squad and made her return in 2015 against the Windies.

Amy became the first player in WODI and second overall after Kumar Sangakkara in ODI to score four consecutive hundreds in 2017. Following these achievements, Satterthwaite won the inaugural ICC Women's ODI Player of the Year award. In September 2018, Suzie Bates stepped down as captain of New Zealand and was replaced by Amy.

She signed for Hobart Hurricanes in 2016 and in November she was named in the Renegades squad ahead of the 2018-19 BBL season. A refined batswoman and a composed leader, Amy was named as the renegades’ player of the season in 2018-19 WBBL

In WBBL 2019-20, Satterthwaite led the Renegades to their first finals appearance in the competition’s history with 66 from 57 balls in a three-run win over Hobart in the penultimate match of the regular season.
