Player Bio

One of the fastest England bowlers, Olly Peter Stone is a pleasing sight for cricket lovers when he bowls at full tilt. However, just like any other pacer, Stone’s career has also been marred by injuries. Starting off his county cricket days with Northants, Stones hogged the limelight very early with his raw pace and was instantly picked in the England U 19 side for the Youth Test series against South Africa U19. He bowled brilliantly and also recorded the best ever bowling figures in a Youth Test.

The 2014-15 County season proved to be an impressive one for Stone as he established himself as an important member in the County side. He was the man in form for Northants and was bowling well on a consistent basis. He was always on the national selection radar but injuries played a big part. He switched to Warwickshire ahead of the 2017 County season.

Stones had a rather torrid time in 2015 when he was forced to miss cricket for more than 12 months. He damaged his anterior ligaments and damaged his cartilage while celebrating the wicket of Moeen Ali during a County match. It was pretty embarrassing for him especially given the fact that was bowling brilliantly at that time and the England selectors were keeping a watch on his progress. His comeback eventually came mid-way through the 2017 season and the pacer just got a solitary first-class game where he bowled with the same zip and clocked 92 mph regularly.

The following season, Stone was named in the English squad for the Sri Lanka tour where he made his ODI debut. Later in 2019, the pacer made his Test debut during the historic match against Ireland. He has become a regular squad member for the English team since then.

In 2021, Stone was picked by the Northern Superchargers franchise based at Emerald Headingley who will play a 100-ball game per side. A pacer like Stone would be a great addition to any club as his pace  can tumble an opposition team when in full throttle.
