Player Bio

A wily leg-spinner, Charles Amini is a professional cricketer for Papua New Guinea who led PNG’s successful campaign in the 2006-07 ICC East Asia-Pacific U-15 cricket. Part of the U-19 setup of PNG, he picked up eight wickets in the Qualifiers to lead the associate nation to the 2008 U-19 World Cup held in Malaysia.

Amini came into the limelight when he received a rookie contract with the Sydney Sixers for the 2013-14 Big Bash League. The leggie dismissed the top-five of Uganda and eventually finished with the career-best figures of 6/19 in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in January 2014. With PNG gaining the ODI status in 2014, the 29-year old made his ODI debut against Hong Kong on November 8th, 2014.

Hailing from a family with deep cricketing roots, Amini was named as the deputy to the skipper in 2019 and a year later was selected in PNG’s squad for the 2021 T20 World Cup. A level-headed person on and off the field, the leggie would be hoping to lead his side into the Super 12s of the T20 World Cup to go head to head against some of the best players in the world.
