Player Bio

Hailing from the small town of Gauteng, Wiaan Mulder pursued cricket from a very young age. Wiaan Mulder is a young prolific fast bowling all-rounder for South Africa.

With the ability to bowl fast and also handle the bat, Wiaan soon found himself in South Africa's squad for the 2016 Under-19 World Cup and was the highest wicket-taker for his country in the tournament.

Mulder’s first-class debut was a superb show of fast bowling. Playing for Highveld Lions in the 2016-17 Sunfoil Series, he took seven wickets against Cape Cobras to announce his arrival. After an astonishing debut series, Mulder got a breakthrough in the national side when he was named to replace the injured Wayne Parnell for the remainder of the ODI series against Bangladesh in 2017. At the ripe age of 18, Wiaan earned his ODI cap and since then he has been in question for the squad.

In May 2019, Mulder signed with the Kent Country Club to play in the 2019 County Championship in England. A couple of matches later, he was called back to the Proteas squad ahead of their international schedule.

At the age of 18, Mulder made his international debut against Bangladesh on October 22, 2017. He just managed to score 2 runs on his debut despite the Proteas domination over the Tigers. In February 2017, Mulder got his maiden Test call-up against Australia but did not play. Travelling with the squad for almost 3-4 series, he finally got a chance to make his Test debut against Sri Lanka on February 21, 2019. Failing to capitalize on the big shots presented to him, Mulder was sidelined.

With his batting ability, Mulder is one of the most promising cricketers and  has been part of South Africa's strategic plans in developing a batting all-rounder for the Test squad in the upcoming years.
