Player Bio

The son of former Test quick Craig and brother of state paceman Alister, Ben Mcdermott is a hard-hitting batsman who can also keep gloves. Born in Queensland, McDermott has made international appearances for Australia and has experience in the Big Bash League (BBL), having played for Brisbane Heat, Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricane.

The Hobart-based cricketer made his BBL debut in the 2013-14 season for Brisbane Heat, scoring 30 in his first match against Adelaide Strikers and signed a rookie contract at the start of that season in 2015 but didn't make his debut for the Bulls until the following summer.

McDermott struggled in domestic cricket in his early days but soon grabbed headlines in the sixth edition of the BBL with some masterclass hitting. The right-hander blasted nine sixes on his way to a match-winning 114 off 52 balls.

In 2020, Mcdermott signed a one-year deal with Derbyshire for the Vitality Blast and Royal London Cup in 2021. He was supposed to join the club in 2020 but the coronavirus pandemic halted those plans and instead he agreed to join the club in 2021. Mcdermott signed for all white-ball formats and will be a key part to the county’s batting line-up for the upcoming tournaments.
