Player Bio

A former winner of the MCC Young Cricketer of the Year, Stuart Poynter is a right-handed wicket-keeper batsman who plays for Ireland and Durham County Club.

Born in Hammersmith, London, Poynter played U-17 and U-19 cricket before making his senior debut. He started his domestic career with Middlesex, then moved to Warwickshire and finally settled with Durham.

In 2014, the wicket-keeper batsman made his Ireland debut in an ODI match against Scotland. He was not required to bat as Ireland comfortably won by 7 wickets.

Poynter slammed his maiden first-class century against a touring Zimbabwe 'A' side in 2015.

In 2019, he was named in the Ireland squad for their one-off Test match against India, however, he did not feature in that game.

Poynter finally made his Test debut against Afghanistan in 2019, getting out for a second-ball duck in his very first Test innings.

A player with great potential, Poynter has been a good domestic player, but has failed to replicate that form for Ireland national team.
