Player Bio

Born in Guyana, Veerasammy Permaul is a Tamil-Guyanese cricketer who made his international debut in 2012.

Permaul started playing cricket in 2002 and after 10 years of hard work he fulfilled his dream of becoming an international capped player.

The left-arm orthodox spinner made his first-class debut for Guyana in the 2006-07 Carib-Beer Series against Windward Island. Permaul immediately left a positive impression on the team management by picking up 4 wickets in the first innings. He then went on to claim his maiden fifer against Jamaica in the KFC Cup later that year.

The tweaker's breakout season came two years later when he finished the first-class season with 32 wickets at an average of 23.93. He took his performance to the next level in the 2011-12 season, scalping 37 wickets at an average of 22.05. This prompted the selectors to have a look at him. Eventually, the left-arm spinner was drafted into the West Indian Test squad for their tour of Bangladesh in 2012. He scalped 4 wickets in his debut Test match and helped his side notched-up a comfortable victory over the Tigers.

The Guyanese cricketer continued to travel with the West Indian side, but the emergence of Sunil Narine sidelined him a bit. Narine became the first choice spinner and Permaul was ignored by the selectors.

In 2018, he made a brief comeback to the national side, when he played his only T20I to date against Pakistan.

A lively bowler who has excellent control over his line and length, Permaul is not afraid to give a bit of flight to the delivery. He is also a handy lower-order batter and can chip in with few runs if required to do so.
