Player Bio

A skiddy customer, Lutho Sipamla has the ability to click good speeds and also has the knack for bagging crucial wickets. The fast-bowler depends more on hard lengths and also has quite a number of variations that can deceive the best in the business.

Born in Port Elizabeth, Sipamla plays domestic cricket for Eastern Province and he got the honours to don the Proteas whites against Sri Lanka in late 2020, after playing a handful of limited-overs matches.

The Port Elizabeth-born was part of the South Africa squad during the 2016 U-19 World Cup and made an impression with his bowling. After some good performances in junior-level cricket, Sipamla made his List A debut for the Eastern Province in the 2016-17 CSA Provincial One Day Challenge in early 2017.

Sipamla was awarded a place in the Tshwane Spartans squad during the inaugural edition of the Mzansi Super League. He ended the tournament as the joint leading wicket-taker having bagged 16 wickets in 10 matches. He also bagged the Mzansi Super League Young Player of the Year at CSA’s annual award ceremony in 2018.

He was named in the South African Emerging squad in 2018 and managed to make his international debut during a T20 match against Pakistan in February 2019. The following year, he made his ODI debut against the then ODI champions, England.

Later that year, Sipamla made his Test debut during the Boxing Day Test of 2020, against the touring Sri Lankan side to scalp six wickets in that game. He also played the New Year’s Test against the same opposition to bag four more wickets, before ending the series with 10 wickets at 16.70.

The emerging pacer has played a handful of international matches for South Africa so far but hasn’t quite managed to make a mark in the international circuit. However, in November 2021, he was added to South Africa 'A' squad, before introduction to the senior squad before India's upcoming tour of the country.
