Player Bio

England player Tom Curran is the son of former Zimbabwe international, Kevin Curran, and his younger brother, Sam Curran, is also an international cricketer, who plays for the English side. Born in Cape Town, South Africa, his family moved to England and Curran joined Surrey County Club at a very young age.

Having broken into the English international side on the back of solid performances in the county cricket, Tom Curran has been rated highly for his death bowling while the ability to hit boundaries at the fag end of the batting order also gives him an extra advantage.

Debuting in the Test format in the 2017 Ashes series, Curran could perform well against an in form Australian batting line up. He played his last Test in the 2017 Ashes.

In the ODI series that followed the Ashes, Curran bagged his maiden fifer, as he took 5 for 35 and rattled the Aussie top order. For his majestic performance with the ball, he was adjudged the Player of the Match.

Curran was included in England’s squad for the 2019 World Cup. He was one of two players along with Liam Dawson to be unused, as England went on to win the tournament.

He has been a valuable player for the teams he has played with in T20 leagues across the world and it is that which landed him an IPL contract from KKR in 2018. However, Curran failed to seize the opportunity and picked only 6 wickets from 5 matches at an economy rate of 11.6.

KKR released him ahead of the 2020 IPL season, and he was roped in by Rajasthan Royals for INR 1 crore. Curran played 5 matches in the tournament and scored 83 runs at a strike rate of 133.

Curran was recruited by Delhi Capitals for INR 5.25 crore, after being released by Rajasthan Royals ahead of the 2021 IPL auction.

Ability to swing the ball both ways and also the ability to contribute with the bat is what makes Curran so special. Curran should be a regular in England’s ODI and T20I setup, but it would be difficult to break in the Test squad, considering the fact that England are stacked up in the middle order.

IPL 2021 will also be crucial for him as a good all-round show in the tournament will help him to secure a berth in the England’s T20I squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
