The Pakistani team which has played phenomenally well in this tournament so far would be looking to go one better and finish the Super 12 stage and march into the semi-final with a win and remain unbeaten in the tournament. They have an easy outlet to achieve that as well as they face Scotland, the only team in the group that has not won any game so far. Scotland and Kyle Coetzer will on the other end look to finish the campaign on a high and nothing could be better than a win. But considering that the game would be played in Sharjah, a win would be a very far fetched result for the Scots. What's at stake? For Pakistan, it is much more about pride, about getting to the semis remaining unbeaten and proving to their opposition, which would most likely be Australia, that they mean business and are not to be taken lightly whatsoever. On the other hand, for Scots, everything is at stake. It’s not about just winning, but also proving to themselves that they can compete at the highest level too. It has been just one game against New Zealand where they were able to showcase their full potential. It would also be a challenge for them to play against spin and no better place than Sharjah to test themselves. They have folded very quickly against the spin of Afghanistan and India and hence showcasing some fight here would mean a lot to them. What needs to change? For Pakistan, they would like Mohammad Hafeez to get back in form before the big match in the semi-final. T20 World Cup | Ruben Trumpelmann becomes first bowler to pick three wickets in opening over
It was a stampede by Namibian pacer Ruben Trumpelmann as he ran over the Scotland batting’s top order and picked three wickets in the very first over to break the backbone of their batting. It was the first time in the history of T20 World Cups that a bowler picked three wickets in the very first over a match. While he bowled George Munsey on the very first ball of the game, South Africa born then removed Calum MacLeod and Riche Berrington on the third and fourth ball of the over to get on a hattrick. MacLeod was caught behind on an outswinger while Berrington was caught napping as an inswinger hit him on the front pad and was given leg before wicket on the umpire’s call. However, on the hat-trick ball, he tried to bring the ball back in for Craig Wallace, but the ball swung too much and hit the ball outside the leg stump. Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus had won the toss and decided to bowl first. Berrington is captaining Scotland as regular skipper Kyle Coetzer is out with a finger injury. This is by Trumplemann’s best bowling figures. He is playing in only his sixth T20I and before this game, had picked only five wickets with the best figures of 2/22. This is the first game for Namibia in the Super 12 stage of the tournament after they surprisingly beat Ireland and Netherlands in the Round 1 of the tournament to qualify for Super 12 as the top two teams from Group A alongside Sri Lanka.
UAE Summer T20 Bash: A perfect warm-up for Ireland, Namibia, Scotland and PNG before World T20 2021
With the T20 World Cup 2021 first round around the corner, Emirates Cricket Board in partnership with Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland, Cricket Namibia, and Cricket Papua New Guinea decided to host the Summer T20 Bash, a tournament that would allow the aforementioned teams some much-needed game time before they head into the all-important World Cup. The tournament, with no final or finalist, is basically like warm-up fixtures with the only difference being that they would be treated as international T20 games. It will be hosted at the single venue of ICC Academy, Dubai Sports City (Dubai) from Tuesday, October 5th through to Sunday, October 10th. In the series, the host nation the United Arab Emirates, who have actually not qualified for the T20 World Cup 2021, will play four games, three against Ireland, and one against Namibia. In the other three games in this seven-match series, Scotland will play two games, one each against Papua New Guinea and Namibia, while Papua New Guinea & Namibia will play among themselves once as well. Thus every team in this tournament will get a hands-on experience of at least two games. Mubashshir Usmani, General Secretary Emirates Cricket Board was happy to announce this much-needed tournament in the light of the fact that the teams competing in the first round would hardly have warm-up games leading up to the tournament. “Emirates Cricket Board is very pleased to welcome Ireland, Scotland, Namibia and Papua New Guinea to the UAE and we are delighted to host the ‘DafaNews Summer T20 Bash’. This is a great opportunity for these participating teams to fine-tune their T20 skills as they approach their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup matches, and for our (UAE) team to gain experience from once again facing an ICC test-nation who will be highly motivated in putting their skills and experience on display. We look forward to a highly competitive series on home soil,” said Usmani in a press release by ECB. Tournament so far The tournament which started on October five has turned out to be an exciting affair with Sony Ten even broadcasting games involving UAE. 1st Match; UAE vs Namibia, October 05th In the first match, Namibia, who would be competing in Group A in the first round alongside Netherlands, Ireland and Sri Lanka, turned out to be too good for the hosts UAE. They won the match by 17 runs courtesy of a stellar bowling performance by Jan Nicolaas Frylinck, who picked up six wickets with his left-arm medium-fast to restrict the hosts to 142-9, thereby handing them a 17 run defeat. Check full scorecard here 2nd Match: UAE vs Ireland, October 07th In the second game of the tournament, hosts UAE were once again on the receiving end, but this time at the hands of Ireland. Once again it was some brilliant bowling performance from Ireland which restricted the home side to only 123-7 in the allotted 20 overs. Curtis Campher picked three wickets while experienced Mark Adair and young leggie Benjamin White picked two wickets each. The chase then turned out to be a cakewalk for the Irish as Pual Stirling and Kevin O’Brien put up 90 for the first wicket in just 13 overs. Even as they fell and so did skipper Andrew Balbarnie in a space of 25 runs, which took 36 balls to complete and got people thinking that the match might stretch to the last over, but it wasn’t to be as Campher hit two fours in a row to finish the game in the 19th over itself. Check full scorecard here 3rd Match: UAE vs Ireland, October 08th It took matches, but UAE did come back eventually in the third game and beat much higher-ranked Ireland to salvage some pride of playing at home. The victory was even sweeter because it was UAE’s biggest margin of victory against a test playing nation. The Irish were bowled out for 109 in 18.4 overs chasing a total of 163. For UAE, right-arm leg break bowler, born in Chennai, India, Kartik Meiyappan was the hero of the game, picking four crucial wickets including those of well set Campher and George Delany. In batting, Chirag Suri and Basil Hameed scored important runs for the hosts. In fact, Suri scored his fourth T20I fifty, making 51 off 44. Check full scorecard here 4th Match: Scotland vs PNG, October 08th Playing their first game of the tournament, the Scottish team showed no mercy whatsoever in bashing Papua New Guinea by eight wickets with 14 balls remaining. It was a proper show of inter from the Scottish team which meant business even in its warm-up game against neighbours Ireland earlier this week, defeating them by five wickets. In this game, PNG scored 154 in their 20 overs courtesy of a fifty by skipper Assad Vala and some late charge by Sese Bau who scored 38 off 26 balls. Scotland, on the other hand, didn’t skip a beat. With fifty from George Munsey and an unbeaten 41 from Richie Berrington, they reached the target in the 18th over itself. SCO vs ZIM| Milton Shumba's career-best helps Zimbabwe chase down 178, win series
It was a blinder of an innings by 20-year-old Zimbabwean Milton Shumba, who redeemed himself from not being able to chase down 142 in the first match of the match T20I series against Scotland, by casing down 178 in the last match and thereby winning the match by five wickets and the series 2-1. Shumba scored 66 of just 29 balls in a knock that consisted of only two fours and six humungous sixes to help his team chase down a tough total at the Grange in Edinburgh. His 99 runs partnership with fellow young all-rounder Wesley Madhevere for the fourth wicket was the key to the Zimbabwean run chase. After the team lost three experienced batters in skipper Sean Ervine, wicket-keeper batter Regis Chakabva and senior all-rounder Sean Williams at the score of 63, chasing down a stiff total of 178, the two young men aged 20 and 21 respectively, showed composure and strength beyond imagination in the eye of the storm and 99 runs in just 53 balls to get to the target. While Madhevere got out for 43 off 31 balls with still 15 needed from 11 balls, Shumba and Ryan Burl made sure that there were no hiccups in a Chevron win. Earlier in the day, after winning the toss, Scotland decided to bat first and courtesy of a brilliant innings from George Munsey at the top (54 off 30 balls), followed by some crucial runs down the order by Calum McLeod (39 off 29 balls) and Richie Berrington (44 off 39 balls), Scotland for the first time ever, crossed the 150 run mark in the series. This was a series decider game with both the teams winning one match each before. Left-handed batter Shumba, who scored his very first career fifty in international cricket, was awarded Man of the Match as well as Man of the series for scoring 112 runs at an average of 56.
